Ashdown remains unbeaten with 35-7 win

ASHDOWN, Ark. — Ashdown scored touchdowns in various ways as the Panthers hammered out a 35-7 football victory over Benton Harmony Grove, 35-7, Friday night.

The Panthers (4-0) scored all their points before Harmony Grove scored by recovering a fumble in the end zone on the game’s final play.

Jacolby Williams for Ashdown started early by scooping up a fumble and returning it 80 yards for a touchdown. Jonathan McElroy kicked the PAT for a 7-0 lead.

Alex Keilbach scored on a 2-yard run and McElroy’s extra points made it 14-0.

Keilbach later passed 20 yards to McElroy for a TD, but the extra point failed.

Landon Rowe intercepte­d a Cardinals’ pass and returned it 63 yards for another Ashdown score. DJ Goffin ran for the 2-point conversion to run the score to 28-0.

McElroy closed out the Panthers’ scoring by diving in from 2 yards out. McElroy’s PAT extended the hosts’ lead to 35-0.

Harmony Grove (0-4) recovered a fumble in the end zone for its lone score.

“We’re playing pretty good on defense and special teams, but we need to cut down on our mistakes offensivel­y,” said Ashdown head coach Matt Richardson. “The kids are working hard and playing pretty well, but we need to correct some mistakes that are hurting our drives.

“We’re still a very young team with about nine underclass­men playing big roles for us. We’re still learning.”

The win was the Conference 7-4A opener for Ashdown, which travels to Bauxite (1-3) on Friday. The Miners lost their conference opener, 35-7 to Malvern.

Hooks 24, Redwater 14

HOOKS, Texas — Hooks’ Davarious Clark scored three touchdowns to power the Hornets to the win over the Redwater Dragons.

Clark scored on runs of 39, 7 and 4 yards for the Hornets (1-3), and Matthew Hays kicked a 23-yard field goal.

Redwater got a pair of touchdowns from Preston Davis on a 20-yard pass to Cole Turner, and Davis scored on a 4-yard run. Davis also ran for a 2-point conversion.

Hughes Springs 22, New Diana 6

DIANA, Texas — Tyson Daigle passed for 47 yards and a touchdown and carried 18 times for 101 yards and another score as Hughes Springs downed New Diana.

Trevor Bolden, who picked up 37 yards on eight carries for Hughes Springs, put the Mustangs (2-1) on top in the first quarter with a 3-yard run.

New Diana answered with a TD in the second to pull to within 8-6, but Daigle added a 1-yard TD run before the half and then tossed a 15-yard touchdown strike to Ty Moss in the final period.

Cole Edwards rushed for 42 yards and recorded 12 tackles for the Mustangs. Mikey Lanier added 11 tackles.

Omari Jones rushed for 122 yards in the loss for New Diana.

On Friday, Hughes Springs hosts Ore City and New Diana (0-5) visits Queen City.

White Oak 28, Atlanta 21

WHITE OAK – The Roughneck defense came up big all night, sealing the deal late as White Oak held on for the narrow win over the Atlanta Rabbits at Roughneck Stadium.

The Roughnecks move to 2-0 with the win while dropping Atlanta to 0-5.

Atlanta (0-5) scored with 10:02 remaining to cut the deficit to 28-21 after trailing 21-7 at halftime. The Rabbits drove deep into Roughneck territory late, but White Oak came up with two fourth-and-goal stops to seal the victory. A fourth-and-goal incomplete pass with 1:48 left turned the ball back over the White Oak, and the home team was able to run out the clock.

Atlanta’s Terunte Neal scored all three of his team’s touchdowns. His first TD was a 53-yard TD run. His second touchdown, on a 3-yard run, capped a 14-play, 65-yard drive that was highlighte­d by a 29-yard run from Kameron Dickerson. Neal’s 1-yard TD plunge with 10:02 remaining made it a one TD game, but the Roughnecks held on for the victory.

Atlanta plays host to Sabine and White Oak visits

Jefferson on Friday.

Sabine 48, New Boston 38

LIBERTY CITY, Texas — Jace Burns passed for 198 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 117 yards and two more scores, leading the Sabine Cardinals over the New Boston Lions.

Burns had plenty of help as the Cardinals snapped a twogame losing streak and improved to 3-2 on the season.

Brannigan Willige carried 26 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns. Kaden Manning had three catches for 102 yards and two scores, and Cayden Fortson added a 33-yard TD reception.

New Boston built a 16-3 lead after one quarter, but regrouped and managed to tie the score at 24-all at halftime.

The Lions (1-2) will play host to Gladewater on Friday and Sabine will visit Atlanta.

Elysian Fields 54, Queen City 12

ELYSIAN FIELDS, Texas — Ryan Wilkerson tossed five touchdown passes, Kyle Storey rushed for a pair of scores and Elysian Fields past Queen City, knocking the Bulldogs from the unbeaten ranks.

Wilkerson completed 14 of 21 passes for 288 yards. He threw a pair of TD passes to both Jackson Illingwort­h and Landon Swank, and Braden Manning added a TD grab. Illingwort­h had four catches for 103 yards.

Volleyball Lady Rabbs win 3-1

QUEEN CITY, Texas — Atlanta defeated Queen City, 3-1, in varsity volleyball action Saturday, with the Lady Rabbs winning 25-20, 21-25, 27-25, 25-18.

Caitlin Morris had seven service points for Atlanta. Leading the Lady Bulldogs were: Gracie Weeks and Lauren Carrell (six kills each), Claire Bates (five kills), Rylie Patillo (11 assists) and Chyna Stiger (eight service points).

Atlanta plays host to Redwater and Queen City entertains Hooks.

Subvarsity volleyball Pleasant Grove wins 3 of 4

PARIS, Texas — Pleasant Grove won three of four middle school matches against North Lamar.

The Hawks won the eighth grade A contest, 25-10, 25-12. Abby Runion had 13 points and Reese Gibbs 10 for the Hawks.

Pleasant Grove on the eighth grade B game, 25-16, 19-8. Mary Bates and Simone Williams served seven points for the winners.

The Hawks’ Jacklynn Smith served 11 points and Maggie Prejean and Emori Huddleston 10 each to spark the 25-16, 25-10 victory.

North Lamar averted a sweep when it won the seventh grade B match, 25-20, 18-10. Layla Sanders had six points for PG.

Leopards, Paris split

Liberty-Eylau Middle School and Paris split a pair of matches.

The Leopards’ eighth-grade team won, 25-20, 24-26, 25-16, behind the 17-point performanc­e by Lakyn Johnson.

Paris won the seventh grade match, 25-27, 25-18, 25-19. Paige Trotter had 24 points for Liberty-Eylau.
