TEXAR to keep four branches closed, including one on Jefferson Avenue

TEXARKANA — The Jefferson Avenue branch of TEXAR Federal Credit Union will remain closed as its members increasingly use technology to bank, an official said Wednesday.

TEXAR has made a significant investment in technology and many of its members choose the digital channels of conducting business rather than coming into branches, said Summer Nelson, TEXAR’s marketing director.

TEXAR’s four locations were originally shuttered because of the pandemic, but officials soon realized the technology was working well for its members — and that TEXAR did well in the technological services it offers, Nelson said.

Strong and consistent customer service remain a priority for the locations where branches have been closed, Nelson said.

MyTEXARTellers are not physical branches, but are interactive tellers and ATMs. They offer the same services as drive-through banking, she said. These can be found throughout Texarkana and other areas TEXAR serves.

Other digital channels available to TEXAR members include Anywhere Access Online Banking; applying for loans by text, phone or website; signing documents from a mobile phone; and remote deposit through the TEXAR mobile app.

TEXAR reopened its physical locations on Richmond Road in Texarkana as well as locations in New Boston and Atlanta, that were part of the credit union’s original footprint, Nelson said.

The employees affected by the branch closures have the opportunity to work at other TEXAR locations, Nelson said. The number of employees affected by the branch closures was not immediately available.

TEXAR will eventually vacate its closed branch buildings, Nelson said.
