Texas High blasts PG

TEXARKANA, Texas — Texas High blasted cross-town rival Pleasant Grove, 24-1, in varsity tennis action Thursday night on the Tigers’ home courts.

“We are very proud of this great team effort,” said Texas High coach Toby Watson. “Several players had to come through some hard fought matches. This team just continues to improve.”

Cross Country Titus County meet

MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas — Texas High’s Fezeka Barnes placed 10th with a time of 20:51.4 in Mount Pleasant’s Titus County Fair Invitation­al Cross Country meet.

Other Tiger leaders were Valeria Perez was 13th in 21:04.2, and Daniela Urieta-Hernandez 31st in 22:57.2.

Evan Likens was 23rd in boys with a time of 17:35.5. Gabriel Raley was 28th in 18:05.0, Juan Carlos Coco 29th in 18:06.5 and Jeb White 30th in 18:06.8.

Volleyball Lady Lions win in 3

NEW BOSTON, Texas — New Boston defeated DeKalb in straight sets in District 14-3A volleyball action Thursday.

The Lady Lions won, 25-12, 25-7, 25-13.

The Lady Bears were led by Emily Barrett with seven service points, 5 assists and four kills, MaKaila Daniels had four assists, and Anijah Gray six digs.

New Boston won the junior varsity match, 25-19, 25-17. Jaleigh Giddens served five points for DeKalb.

The Bears won the freshmen contest, 25-14, 16-25, 25-23. Lizeth Martinez sparked the winners with 12 service points.

DeKalb plays at Redwater on Tuesday.

Subvarsity Volleyball

TMS win four matches

Texas Middle School won four volleyball matches against Longview Pine Tree.

TMS won the eighth grade A match, 25-23, 25-22. Texas leaders were: Bellah Chattaway (eight points), Kyla Reed (seven points).

TMS took the eighth grade B game, 25-22, 25-21. Leading servers were Kyla Rogers (nine points) and Forever Harris-Johnson (eight points).

Texas Middle School also swept the seventh grade matches, winning the A contest, 25-19, 25-21, and the B game, 25-19, 25-9. In the A game, Deja Aubrey served 10 points and Taryne Stiger seven in the A match. Kortlyn Estell had 14 points and Alexxys Richardson 12 in the B game.

Football Leopards battle Van to tie

Liberty-Eylau and Van battled to an 18-18 tie in subvarsity football action Thursday.

Leopard scores came on Jathan Malone’s 60-yard run, Greg London’s 15-yard run, and Caleb Parks’ 4-yard run. L-E came on short on three 2-point attempts.

Leopards offensive standouts (selected by coaches) were Carlos Ford, Hagen Power and Shamar Pickett. Defensive standouts included Greg London, Cameron Hadaway, Tavarious Neal and Jathan Malone.

Neal, Malone and Hadaway had intercepti­ons for Liberty-Eylau.

Hawk freshmen roll, 50-8

Pleasant Grove rolled to a 50-8 victory ovver Carthage in freshmen action.

Ahkari Johnson passed for three touchdowns and ran for another to spark the Hawks’ offense.

Johnson scored on a 2-yard plunge, and also connected with Brenton Clark for TDs covering 70 and 30 yards. Johnson also connected with Cade Martin on a touchdown pass.

Pleasant Grove’s other scores were by Torion Phillips (15-yard run), Spencer Danner (15-yard run) and Jackson Gibson (3-yard run).

Carthage dominates Hawks

TEXAKANA, Texas — Carthage came into town Thursday and handed four middle school losses to host Pleasant Grove.

The Bulldogs won the eighth-grade A contest, 28-0, and the B game, 3-1. Devonte Edwards scored a 23-yard TD run for the Hawks.

Carthage won the seventh-grade A game, 20-14. Buck Anderson scored on runs of 35 and 1 yard for PG.

The Bulldogs won the seventh-grade B contest, 3-2. The Hawks’ TDs came on Brett Holt’s 35-yard run and Roland Richie’s 40-yard run. Nick Rodriguez also recovered a fumble.

Pleasant Grove plays at Pittburg next Thursday.

Hooks soars past Pewitt

HOOKS, Texas — Dontraviou­s Coulter rushed for three touchdowns and Trip Baysinger passed for a pair of scores as the Hooks eighth grade defeated Paul Pewitt, 38-8.

Hudson Davis and Jorge Velazquez had a receiving touchdown and a 2-point conversion each. Ashton Odom had an intercepti­on and a 2-point conversion. Braden McDonald forced a fumble, and Kaeden Lichty and Orlando Stiger recovered fumbles.

The Hornets’ seventh-grade also won, 50-14, behind the five-touchdown performanc­e by Ripken Birdwell.

Birdwell had three rushing touchdowns and passed for a couple more. Both pass touchdowns were to Landon Harrison. Birdwell also scored a 2-point conversion.

Hooks’ other leaders were Jamarion Smith with two rushing TDs and two 2-point conversion­s. Datrien Campbell also had a 50-yard run for a score and Holden Butross was successful on a 2-point conversion.

The Hornet defense forced four fumbles. Blaze Connell had a forced fumble and Holden Butross had a fumble recovery.

Dragons roll to 22-0 win

REDWATER, Texas — Marquez Jones scored three touchdowns on run of 20 yards or more and the Dragons rolled to a 22-0 win over Paris Chisum.

Jones’ touchdowns came on runs of 36, 32 and 20 yards. Gavin Carrell ran for all three 2-point conversion­s.
