PG girls fall to Gilmer

TEXARKANA, Texas — Pleasant Grove suffered a rare home loss, dropping a tough, five-set District 15-4A volleyball match to Gilmer Friday.

Both teams entered the match ranked in the Top 25 in Class 4A in the state, the Lady Hawks (12-4) No. 22 and Gilmer (15-4) No. 24.

The Lady Buckeyes won, 25-19, 25-18, 15-25, 16-25, 15-12.

Gilmer now moves into first place in district at 3-0 while Pleasant Grove slips to 2-1.

The Hawks’ leaders were Katie Ferguson with 11 kills an 14 set assists, Adi Koller with 15 service points, Macy Young 19 set assists, Ella Nichols 12 digs and Lexie Snyder nine digs.

Pleasant Grove’s next match will be at Paris on Tuesday.

Tigers win in straight sets

TEXARKANA, Texas — Texas High defeated Sulphur Springs in straight sets Friday in the Tiger Center, although the final two games went in extra periods.

The Lady Tigers won, 25-29, 28-26, 28-26.

Texas High used a team effort to beat the Lady Wildcats. Tiger leaders were: Ashlyn Stiger (16 kills, five blocks, 15 points and three aces);

Jaycee Kennedy (10 kills and three blocks); Bella Cherry (15 points, 15 assists, eight kills) and Lauren Allred (18 assists, 14 points).

The Tigers also for 18 digs and 12 points from Ashanti Northcross, and 12 points and 10 digs from Valeria Perez.

Texas High lost the JV match, 25-12, 25-21. Kailyn Williams had seven points for the hosts.

Sulphur Springs also won the freshmen match, 25-15, 25-18. Jayla Henderson served seven points for THS.

The Tigers’ next match will be Tuesday at Hallsville.

Lady Brahmas win in 3

NAPLES-OMAHA, Texas — Host Paul Pewitt downed Queen City in straight sets in District 14-3A action, winning 25-22, 25-21, 25-20.

The Lady Bulldogs leaders were: Alex Larry (eight service points), Lauren Carrell (five kills, two blocks), and Chyna Stiger and Jamecia Cook (four kills each).

Queen City returns to district action today, playing at New Boston.
