ROGER SPENCER

Roger Kent Spencer, age 79, of New Boston, Texas, died Saturday, September 19, 2020. Mr. Spencer was born May 15, 1941, in Nebraska. He retired from the United States Marine Corp after thirty years of service, including two tours in Vietnam. He did very well in the military. He enlisted as a service member, went through the ranks as a Mustang and went on to retire as a Major. He was proud to serve his country.

Roger was also very active in his church, Central Christian, in Texarkana. He loved his church and enjoyed singing in the choir and helping in any area he could.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Douglas L. Spencer and Velma Campbell Spencer; and a brother, Douglas R. Spencer.

Survivors include his wife of twenty-five years, Betsy Spencer of New Boston, Texas; his sons, Roger Kennedy Spencer and wife Dani of Henderson, North Carolina, Christopher Spencer of Cary, North Carolina, and Travis Skelton and wife, Becky of Ashdown, Arkansas; grandchildren, Ryan Spencer, Austin Spencer, Aaron Spencer, Alexis Barnett, Katie (Jayson) Carver, Keith (Seth) Loving; and one great-granddaughter, Ava Rose Carver; one sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Andy Anderson of Vancouver, Washington; and two sistersDonna Spencer of Glendoor, California and Barbara Sparks of Ankeny, Iowa.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home.

Memorial service will be Sunday October 11, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Central Christian Church Texarkana, Texas.
