TEXARKANA — Several former high school standout athletes from the area will hold a More Than Baseball Youth Development Camp on Oct. 24-25 at Spring Lake Park in Texarkana, Texas.

Texas High graduates Slade Heathcott and Caleb Adams and Trinity Christian graduate Greg Milhorn will help work directly with athletes in pitching, hitting, infield, outfield, baserunning, leadership, mental skills and more during the upcoming two-day camp.

“We are coming together to help raise funds for the Dixie Youth Baseball program out at Spring Lake Park,” Heathcott told the Gazette. “These camps are about far more than how to hit a double or throw a no-hitter. The lessons will be centered around creating young leaders not only on the field, but more importantly in the classrooms, homes and as young adults coming into our communities.”

Heathcott played in the Majors for the New York Yankees, Adams was a minor leaguer and Milhorn played for the University of Arkansas.

The development camp will be for ages 7-18 and there will be a $110 signup fee.

“We want to create an event that can allow for every youth in the community that has an aspiration to play baseball in hopes of playing college, in the big leagues, and to the kids that want to just play baseball because it’s fun,” Heathcott said.

More Than Baseball’s mission is to preserve and protect the future of baseball. The focus on its camps is to empower youth using a platform for players so they can carry and teach the game the right way.

“Many young ballplayers are taught inaccurate or out-of-date philosophies and drills,” its website states. “With our growing network of players and coaches, More Than Baseball is able to focus its energy on creating a strong, more dynamic learning space for youth baseball and softball players around the world.”
