Holiday mystery unfolds at PG Intermediate School

- By Andrew Bell

TEXARKANA, Texas — Pleasant Grove Intermediate School is now under a Christmas investigation after some mischievous student elves supposedly broke in and transformed their library into a winter wonderland.

When students arrived back at school after Thanksgiving break, the last thing they expected to see was a raided library with riddles and clues scattered all over, along with a message that read, “We’ve attacked the library! Good luck finding us. — Mrs. Elfen’s class.”

“The intermediate school kids left and everything is very normal, then they come back and it’s been converted into a bit of a wonderland, to some degree, with sorts of hand-made materials and decorations,” art teacher Nicole Brisco said.

Rumor has it that 15 student elves’ week-long adventure ended when Principal Pam Bradford walked in, turned on the lights and the elves were all frozen in time in different scenes.

There was caution tape and wanted signs for whoever broke in and vandalized the school. And most importantly, the elves had put every teacher and administrator on the Naughty List, where they will now have to prove to students that they don’t belong there before Christmas break.

To decorate the library, various items around the school were stolen, including 500 snowflakes that were created by the students.

“During Thanksgiving break, I regretfully left the door to my art room unlocked,” art teacher Christina Tate said. “As I returned to school after the holiday break, I quickly realized that several art supplies had been taken and all of the snowflakes students had been working on were stolen! The library had been completely taken over by elves! As I walked inside the library, I discovered the snowflakes hanging from the ceiling.

To make matters more curious, there were also items stolen from the PG High School art room.

“Kids were squealing up and down hallways and couldn’t believe what happened,” Brisco said. “In their minds, it doesn’t take much for them to go back to that magical place. When they’re having doubts, but all of a sudden something comes up like this, and it just comes back.”

Over the next couple of weeks, students will be completing various activities to investigate, as well as figure out how to get these elves back to the North Pole.

One of the activities to be completed will be creative writing, where they will have to come up with an adventure using character, setting, plot and solution to return the elves, who run on ideas and ingenuity, back to the North Pole.

They also will have an art prompt, where they will have to create an “Elfie Selfie” to depict where they and the elf are at during their expedition.

Their final products will be entered in an art contest next week, where the winner will be awarded a gift card.

“We want to see how the kids unfold with it and how much fun they have with it — what their writing is like, what their art is like,” Brisco said.

“Before the end of the Two Weeks, there’ll be some guesses. The kids will have to start putting in their ideas about how they think they broke in, how this all happened and hopefully we’ll get some really funny things and see where the kids’ perspectives are.”

In the meantime, Brisco said they are actively searching for any and all clues to help solve this mystery.

“We’re definitely looking for the community to help us out if they know anything,” she said. “Please feel free to call the PG hotline if you have any information on how we could possibly solve this mystery and how it happened.”
