STAYING ADAPTABLE
Digital Press changes location, keeps up with the times
TEXARKANA — Of all the qualities Digital Press has demonstrated over the years, adaptability may be its biggest strength.
As times change, so has this local business.
As the internet transformed information technology everywhere, Digital Press was quick to change.
It’s name. It’s services. It’s approach. It’s name again. And now its location: It’s flipped from one side of State Line Avenue to the other.
What hasn’t changed? Its tradition of service.
“This business began 40 years ago as Kwik Copy, under the ownership of Jim and Linda Larry,” said Jane Davitt, co-owner of Digital Press with her partner and husband, Pat Davitt, who just retired from the business. “We bought it in 1998.”
But then digital technology and the internet began to change everything, so Kwik Copy changed its name to Texarkana Digital Press. And the time was coming they would outgrown their location in Texarkana, Arkansas.
“This year, John Webb, one of our employees, carried on the tradition and bought the business in turn,” she said. “And the decision was made to relocate once again to our new location on the Texas-side of State Line. We need the increased space, which the new location will provide.”
The building, has been the home of a paint store — an oversized paint can still draws attention over the roof — and most recently it was an antiques shop.
“That big paint bucket is iconic,” Davitt said. “It is well-known as a local landmark, a conversation piece, a part of our culture. We’ve put our information on it, but the bucket is tradition and is here to stay.”
What isn’t here to stay is the Texarkana in its name. No longer Texarkana Digital Press, but now shortened to Digital Press.
But while traditions are nice, transformations are what have kept Digital Press in business.
“When we started, it was offset printing,” Davitt said. “We can still do that, but more of the work is done digitally. We do all the things a printing service does, from invitations to letterheads, and more. We can also do engineering schematics. We can even print and mail in bulk, saving our customers on postage.”
