Active coronaviru­s cases up in Miller County

The number of confirmed active coronaviru­s cases in Miller County, Arkansas, increased by nine from Monday to Thursday, moving from 65 to 75, according to the Arkansas Department of Health.

The county’s cumulative confirmed cases rose by 27, from 1,678 to 1,705, with 1,615 recoveries and 16 deaths because of COVID-19, according to ADH.

Elsewhere in Southwest Arkansas, Lafayette County’s case count increased from 223 to 228 Monday to Thursday, Pike County’s from 392 to 424, Nevada’s County’s from 437 to 444, Little River County’s from 561 to 571, Howard County’s from 683 to 696, Hempstead County’s from 771 to 795 and Sevier County’s from 1,452 to 1,459, according to ADH.

Bowie County, Texas, added four deaths because of COVID-19 in the past week. The local emergency Joint Operations Center reported 104 fatalities among county residents on Dec. 3, and the Texas Department of State Health Services reported 108 Thursday.

There are 340 active cases in Bowie County, down three since a week ago, according to TDSHS. Total cases in the county increased by 49 over the past week, from 2,579 to 2,628, with 2,180 recoveries.

From Dec. 3 to Thursday, Cass County, Texas’ COVID-19 death toll rose by three in the past week. The local emergency Joint Operations Center reported 36 fatalities among county residents on Dec. 3, and the Texas Department of State Health Services reported 39 Thursday.

There are 30 active cases in Cass County, down four since a week ago, according to TDSHS. Total cases in the county increased by 33 over the past week, from 770 to 803, with 734 recoveries.

In Northwest Louisiana, Caddo Parish’s cumulative case count increased by 372 Monday to Thursday, moving from 14,507 to 14,879, according to the Louisiana Department of Health. Bossier Parish’s case count rose by 248, from 6,897 to 7,145.

Statewide, Arkansas reported 154,073 total cases so far and 2,820 deaths Thursday, Louisiana reported 261,329 cases and 6,724 deaths, and Texas reported 1,296,132 cases and 23,325 deaths.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 15,271,571 cases in the U.S. so far, with a national death toll of 288,762.
