Genoa Central girls beat Lady Dragons; Maud, New Boston, DeKalb win
TEXARKANA, Texas — Genoa Central’s DJ Rowe scored 14 points, including four 3-pointers, to ignite the Lady Dragons to a 47-44 win over Pleasant Grove Friday.
Gracie Fowler added 11 points for Genoa Central (4-4), which led 23-16 at halftime.
Peyton Mathews was the lone double-figure scorer for the Lady Hawks.
Pleasant Grove is scheduled to play today at Queen City.
The Dragons will open Conference 7-3A play Tuesday at Ashdown.
Maud 32, Linden-Kildare 24
MAUD, Texas — Haley Yates scored 14 and Jordan Jones added 8 to lift the host Cardinals to the district-opening win over the Lady Tigers.
Hannah Brown paced LindenKildare with 10 points.
Maud (1-4, 1-0) outscored the Tigers 15-8 in the second half.
The Cardinals will host Hughes Springs today and then travel to Detroit on Tuesday.
New Boston 65, Queen City 45
NEW BOSTON, Texas — New Boston beat Queen City in a varsity girls game at Lions Gym, 65-45.
Hannah Fitts led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points, while teammates Lauren Carrol and Alex Larry each scored 9 points apiece.
Victoria Burns led the Lady
Lions with 17 points and Romyano McChester added 12 points.
Aunisty Dorsey finished with 13 points.
DeKalb 59, Atlanta 35
DeKALB, Texas —Corianna Fulbright’s 16 points led DeKalb over Atlanta, 59-35.
Bracee Parker finished with 12 points for the Lady Bears.
Jennifer Easter and Kym Sheppard each scored 10 points for the Lady Rabbs.
Hughes Springs 28, New Diana 25
DIANA, Texas — Hughes Springs trailed early, but the Lady Mustangs rebounded and beat the host Eagles, 28-25, on New Diana’s home court.
Adriana Kennedy led Hughes Springs with 10 points and Sam Waller added 8. Sarah Yount topped New Diana with 7 points.
The Mustangs trailed 11-5 at the first break, but closed to the gap to 17-9 at halftime. Hughes Springs outscored the hosts 19-8 in the second half.
The Mustangs are scheduled to play at Maud in a nondistrict game today.
Subvarsity tennis PG wins doubleheader
TEXARKANA, Texas — Pleasant Grove Middle School won a tennis doubleheader against two opponents.
The Hawks defeated Sulphur Springs, 20-1, and beat St. James, 12-7.
