Eight Days

Shopping local retailers is especially important this Christmas season

-

Well, here we are. The last eight days of Christmas shopping before the holiday arrives. We are sure at least some readers have all the hard work done. But we are just as sure that many are scrambling to find just the right gifts for all on their list.

Where did the time go? It almost seems like yesterday we were putting away the Christmas tree and preparing for brand new year. Little did we know what 2020 would bring. Now that year is almost gone and we once again get ready for precious time with family and friends — if in smaller numbers or by distance.

Unfortunately we also get the stress that can come along with making all the annual preparations for a perfect Christmas.

One of the ways to take some the stress away — for both you and your family and your friends and neighbors here in Texarkana — is to do your shopping locally.

We have written before about shopping local retailers this holiday season. Some may think we’re pushing the matter a bit much. Maybe so. But we won’t apologize.

That’s because keeping our dollars here at home is so very important. The Twin City economy doesn’t depend on purchases made online and money sent to cities far away. No, our local economy, our local jobs, our local quality of life all depend on spending done here at home.

And this year is especially crucial. Many businesses have been hit hard vy the COVID-19 pandemic. The Christmas shopping season may well be make or break for some.

Yes, you might spend a bit more. And yes you will have to get up and away from your computer screen. But isn’t it worth it? We all want to live in a city with a flourishing local economy. And the only way that’s going to happen in Texarkana is if we all do our part.

Let’s help make the holiday season even brighter this year for those of us who call the Twin Cities home. Shop locally.
