Suspect arrested in a string of Cass County church burglaries
HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas — An arrest has been made in a string of vandalism and burglaries at Cass County churches.
Jonathan Hamilton, 33, of Linden was arrested late Friday by Hughes Springs Police, said Chief Randy Kennedy.
Hamilton was arrested on charges of burglary of a building and possession of a controlled suspect. He is being held in the Cass County jail.
Police are also working to get an arrest warrant for a second suspect, Kennedy said.
Law enforcement in Cass County have been looking for suspects in connection with a string of church burglaries and vandalism in the county.
Several churches in Hughes Springs, Avinger, Linden, Atlanta and the New Colony area were either vandalized or vandalized and burglarized, Kennedy said.
“We’ve been working together, us and the Sheriff’s Office and Linden Police. We’ve been putting our heads together and sharing information,” he said.
Photos from a security video showed two people and a vehicle possibly driven by the suspects. The vehicle was stopped late Friday during a traffic stop and a search warrant was obtained that resulted in more evidence being found in the vehicle, Kennedy said.
Pastor Shaun Collins of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Linden said the items stolen from his church were very unusual. He said a thermometer and rechargeable batteries were taken while music equipment was left alone. His office and the door to the fellowship hall were also vandalized, according to an earlier report.
