Juicy offers seafood its own way

- By Junius Stone

TEXARKANA, Texas — At the former Buffalo Wild Wings location on St. Michael Drive, a new catch of the day has arrived. With a menu featuring a range of seafood, Juicy Seafood specializes in crab and shellfish. Comfortable wood furnishings and warm lighting help create an air of ease for diners.

“It is all about making the customer feel at home,” said Wesley Polk, manager at the Juicy Seafood in Mississippi, who is in Texarkana to help train the management and staff. “Just come in, relax, order your food, stay a bit.”

When asked what makes Juicy Seafood’s menu unique in the world of seafood serving, Polk gets a little mysterious.

“Some want to call our approach ‘Cajun,’ but that’s not quite it. We do have a spicy approach, but it is not Cajun at all,” he said.

“The owner of the franchise is the creator of our recipes that all our chefs and cooks train to prepare, but he’s kind of secretive about just what he uses. You have to taste it for yourself and find out. When the first Juicy Seafood was opened in Montgomery, Alabama, that’s the way we did it there and the way we do it here. We take tips and hints from a range of styles, but it is a flavor all our own.”

Crabs, mussels, clams, snow crab, those are the Juicy Seafood mainstays. The dessert menu features cheesecake, of the sort customers may be used to.

“We call it Xango,” Polk said. “It is fried cheesecake.”

(Juicy Seafood is located at 4320 St. Michael Drive. They are open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.)
