TEXARKANA, Texas — Texas A&M University-Texarkana had an eightgame win streak snapped and absorbed its first Red River Athletic Conference loss on the softball field this season.

LSU-Alexandria pitcher Eryn Sanchez hurled a four-hitter and struck out 10 during the Generals' 6-0 win over the Eagles Friday at James Bramlett Field.

The teams meet again today for a noon doubleheader.

TAMU-T (8-4, 3-1) never got going offensively against Sanchez and the Alexandria defense. The Generals (8-6, 3-0) broke onto the scoreboard early.

Lauryn McMahon lined a one-out single to center field in the second inning, and Micah Portalis ripped a two-out triple to right-center on the seventh pitch of the at-bat. The Eagles stranded Portalis at third to end the inning.

Sanchez retired the first five Texarkana batters she faced before Alicia Mora legged out an infield single. Mora was caught stealing at second to end the inning.

LSU-A added a run the fourth inning on singles by Sanchez, Haylee Tidwell and Portalis, who plated Sanchez with his soft liner to shallow left.

Sanchez faced the minimum through 10 batters, but Katie Slamer smashed a one-out triple to right field in the fourth. A fly out and strikeout thwarted the Eagle scoring opportunity.

The Generals scored a third run on a walk, groundout, passed ball and wild pitch in the top of the fifth against TAMU-T reliever Sierra Kupihea.

Alexandria loaded the bases in the sixth on a leadoff single and two walks. A hit batsman brought in a run, and two wild pitches scored two more for a 6-0 lead.

Pitcher Lauryn Henson was brought in after the first out, and she stopped the bleeding with a strikeout and pop out to end the frame. Sierra Mihailov led off the bottom of the inning with a line drive to center, and a two-out walk put two on, but a pop up stranded both.

Jade Martin started the seventh with a leadoff single for Texarkana, but Sanchez, who walked just one, notched three strikeouts to end the game.

Anna Westberry absorbed the pitching loss for the Eagles. She lasted four innings, gave up six hits and two runs.
