BETTYE PLUNKETT

Bettye Mills Plunkett, age 91, of Marietta, Texas passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021 in Green Hill Villas at Mt. Pleasant, Texas. She was born June 19, 1929 at Rocky Point near Naples to Lola and Lacy Mills.

She was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Marietta where she served as the church clerk and Sunday School teacher. She was active all her life in church where she lived – Naples, Columbus, San Angelo, and Honolulu. Bettye was a 1946 graduate of Naples High School and attended East Texas State Texarkana College and Angelo State University. She worked in various places in a clerical/management position – including Morris County National Bank, Lone Star Steel Company, and Cities Service Oil Company. Bettye retired after 22 years from GTE Direction Corporation as publishing manager in the Honolulu, Hawaii office. She was also a member of the Naples Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She volunteered at the crisis center in Linden for many years.

Bettye was preceded in death by her husband of forty-four years, Wayne Plunkett; her parents; one sister, Rita Mills McCoy; and one step-sister Patsy Rainey.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Mary Ann Brock of Marietta; two grandsons and families, David and Carmen Brock of Newhall, Iowa and Chris and Cris Brock of Bryans Mill, Texas; her great granddaughters, Lola and Joy Brock of Newhall, Iowa; her great-grandson, Daniel Rios of Bryans Mill, Texas; and one special niece and her family, Lynda and Gary Sims of Bryans Mill, Texas.

The body will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2021 at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Oak Ridge Baptist Church with Dr. Chas Carlisle officiating. Interment will follow at Naples Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Ridge Baptist Church or Naples Cemetery.
