Eagles sweep Jaguars in doublehead­er; two more games set today

TEXARKANA, Texas — The Texarkana A&M-Texarkana Eagles started their four-game homestand with the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars undefeated.

The Eagles run-ruled the Jaguars in the second game of their Red River Athletic Conference doublehead­er Friday at George Dobson Field, 13-3.

Jaylan Prince’s walkoff single, driving in Cole Chambers, in the bottom of the seventh inning won the nightcap for the Eagles.

Carter Coats started on the bump for TAMU-T. Coats went seven innings, struck out six and gave up three runs.

Luis Vargas drove in Garrett Harrison in the top of the first inning, giving the Jaguars a 1-0 edge.

The Eagles took the first lead of the game when Chris McGinty drove in Jack Skinner, and Hunter Reid knocked in Wyatt Stanvinoha, giving TAMU-T a 2-1 advantage after the first inning.

McGinty finished 3 for 5 at the plate with a home run and 5 RBI for TAMU-T.

Levi Whitlock tied the contest for the Jaguars, with James Turnball scoring on Whitlock’s double play grounder.

The Eagles were able to break the tie in the bottom of the third inning on Reid’s triple over the center fielder’s

head, driving in Jaylan Prince and giving TAMU-T a 3-2 lead.

Reid went 2 for 2 with a double, triple and 2 RBI for the Eagles.

McGinty blasted a 2-run homer in the bottom of the fifth, expanding the Eagles’ lead to 5-2.

Ethan Rodriguez drove in Prince for the Eagles, giving TAMU-T a four-run cushion.

Zach Lee belted a solo home run in the sixth for the Jaguars, closing the gap to 6-3 Eagles.

McGinty drove in Skinner in the sixth inning, followed by Prince bringing in Cole Chambers.

Prince finished 2 for 2 with an RBI and three runs scored.

The hosts were able to add three runs before the end of the sixth, as their lead ballooned to commanding 11-3.

TAMU-T beat UH-V in the first game, 11-7.

Trevor Stone was the winning pitcher for the Eagles.

TAMU-T will finished its homestead with the Jaguars today at George Dobson Field. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
