Eagles sweep 4-game series,

TEXARKANA, Texas — After sweeping both NAIA Red River Conference baseball games on Friday, Texas A&M University-Texarkana continued its winning ways against Jarvis Christian College Saturday at George Dobson Field.

The Eagles scored in the bottom of the ninth to walk off with a 3-2 win in the opener Saturday. Game 2 was an 11-0 thrashing by TAMU-T to complete the 4-game sweep.

Game 1

TAMU-T 3, Jarvis Christian 2

Wyatt Stavinoha doubled with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to score Austin Majorsky for the winning run.

Jarvis Christian scored twice in the first off Eagle starter Zac Harrington, but the Bulldogs didn’t manage to score again.

Harrington allowed six hits over six innings of work, striking out two, walking none and hitting a pair. Mike Herrera picked up the win with three innings of two-hit relief. Herrera fanned six and issued no free passes.

Facing a 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the first inning, Texarkana’s Jack Skinner tripled to left-center to start the Eagles’ half of the inning. He scored on Cole Chambers’ sac fly.

Chambers delivered a one-out single to right in the bottom of the third. Hunter Reid singled, sending Chambers to third, and Jaylan Prince picked up the RBI on a fielder’s choice to tie the game.

Reid was 3 for 4 to lead the Eagles, who stranded nine runners on base and had seven hits. The Bulldogs left six on after finishing with eight hits.

In the top of the first, Jose Santana led off the game with a double for Jarvis, scoring on Josh Romero’s one-out hit. After a hit batsman, Noah Herring singled to left to plate Romero for the 2-0 lead.

Game 2

TAMU-T 11, Jarvis Christian 0

Chris McGinty smashed a 2-run home run during a 3-run first inning to help the Eagles grab the early lead, and Jordan Johnson made that lead stand up.

Johnson pitched a 7-inning complete game, scattering five hits. He struck out three and walked two.

Ruston Bult singled to start the bottom of the first, scoring on Cole Chambers’ single up the middle prior to McGinty’s big fly to left-center.

Texarkana batted around in the third, scoring four more runs. Chambers and McGinty were hit by pitches, and Jaylan Prince doubled to left to bring in the latter after the second out. Hunter Reid singled in Prince, and following Ryan Peterson’s hit, an error brought home Reid. Tyler Black’s single scored the fourth run for a 7-0 lead.

Reid belted a solo homer to start the fifth. Peterson singled and scored later on Bult’s 2-out hit.

In the sixth after stranding the bases loaded in the top half, Peterson doubled in a run, and a wild pitch brought home another.
