BOWIE COUNTY, Texas — Scott Norton, TexAmericas Center executive director and CEO, announced that about 7,000 acres of land that was once part of Lone Star Army Ammunition plant, was “shovel ready” for business development.

“These acres are now available for development and job generating use,” he said Wednesday during an online press conference.

“They were confirmed for availability for redevelopment in January. This will help enhance and diversify our local tax base even more.”

Norton said this development is the latest in a series of moves on the campuses of TexAmericas Center.

A Spec Building is on track for a grand opening this summer” he said. “There is the water treatment plant soon to be under construction. The regional transportation system is in a continuing state of improvement and enhancements. The area features low cost power availability. The regional airport has the new terminal under construction, as well as other facility enhancements. The local universities and colleges feature training options in their curricula. We have introduced our new third party logistics services division at Tex Americas Center.”

He said TexAmericas Center, according to Business Facilities Magazine, ranks eighth in the top 10 list of industrial parks in the country.

With this new acreage coming available, TexAmericas Center now has a total of 12,000 acres available for business usage.

Various officials commented on the announcement, acknowledging the achievements of the Center’s board, staff and partners

“Your efforts will expand opportunity and create jobs for Texans in the Texarkana region and keep Texas the economic engine of America,” said Texas Governor Greg Abbot.

Rep. Pat Fallon, Texas’s 4th District congressman, echoed the governor.

“Congratulations to our friends of Red River County, Bowie County,

New Boston. We are going to grow, become a stronger state and economy because of this announcement from TexAmericas Center,” he said.

“This is a lot of land,” said Jim Roberts, TexAmericas Center chairman of the board. “This is 6,800, half of what we are developing. This pipeline of business activity continues to grow, even through COVID.”

Rob Sitterley, president and CEO of AR-TX REDI, said this was the kind of leadership to move things forward.

“This type of investment and forward thinking is what allows our region to stand out from our competitors,” he said. “Each new investment makes our state more attractive to companies looking to locate or expand.”
