TUESDAY ALBERT AKIN

Albert Warren Akin, age 79, of Texarkana, AR. passed away on Monday May 30, 2022, at his home.

Mr. Akin was born February 22, 1943 in Fouke, AR. to Marjorie and Ross Akin.

Al left behind his beloved wife of 34 years, Doris Akin, three daughters, Janet Akin, Pam Bransford, and Ginger Akin Allen, all of Texarkana; two step-sons, Bob Stanton and wife Dianne, and Earl Stanton and wife Amanda; one sister Avis Stiles of Bloomburg, TX.; and numerous grandchild­ren, great-grandchild­ren and other relatives.

Mr. Akin was a diesel mechanic and owner of Akin’s Small Engine Repair Service. He loved his family, hunting, fishing and pulling pranks.

Al was preceded in death by his first wife Jeri Lynn Akin; his father and mother Ross and Marjorie Akin,; brothers Curtis, Stanley, and Leon Akin; and sister Mary Claudine Beckham.

Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at Texarkana Funeral Home Chapel, 3515 Texas Boulevard, Texarkana, TX with Rev. Chris Hooten and Herb Davison officiatin­g. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Texarkana, TX.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 from 5 – 7 PM at the funeral home.

WEDNESDAY GLENDA WILF

Glenda Ruth Wilf, age 81 of Texarkana, Texas passed peacefully on Sunday, June 5, 2022. Glenda was born on December 27, 1940, in Atlanta, Arkansas before moving to Cotton Valley, Louisiana with her parents, Alfred and Laura Shepherd where she spent most of her childhood. After moving to Texarkana, Texas in 1970 she spent her working years in accounting and bookkeepin­g positions for several local companies. In her free time she enjoyed playing golf, fishing, gardening, traveling, camping, and going to the horse races. She was active in the garden club, her church, and volunteere­d for several local charities including the Salvation Army. Glenda led an active life and was happiest spending time with her husband, her friends, her kids and grandkids.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Laura Shepherd and her sister Jane Samples.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband James Wilf, her son Jason Grelle and his wife Kelli of Sunnyvale, TX, her step-daughter Shawn Lee and her husband Jimmy of Pass Christian, MS, her stepson Mitch Wilf and his wife Darla of Texarkana, TX, her brother Don Paul Shepherd of Frankston, TX, her grandkids; Kristen and Daniel Simmons, Kourtney and Greg Despres, Holly and Dusty Hickerson, Max Wilf, Stefan Arrington, Taylor and Mel Lee, her great grandkids; Vivian Despres, Nora Despres, Mable Simmons, Morris Simmons, John David Cass, Hadley Hickerson, her nieces; Angela Green and Christina Johnston, and her nephew Jon Paul Shepherd. As well as numerous longtime friends.

A Memorial service will be held at a future date.

FRIDAY MARY MASON

Mary Louise Mason, age 97, of Atlanta, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, in a local nursing home.

Mary was born on December 17, 1924, in Queen City, Texas to her parents, Ernest O. Cox and Madie Rue Washington Cox. She retired from Belk Jones after working 20 years as a bookkeeper. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church, Texarkana where she served many years as a Sunday School Teacher. She and her husband also served in the youth ministry every Wednesday night. After serving as a teacher, she joined the Faithful Followers Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. She was a previous member of the Texarkana Gardening Club. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and being with family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.W. Mason, Jr. “Dub”; her parents; and two brothers, Ernest Oliver Cox, Jr., and Earl Jones Cox; and her nephew, Ray Hines.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, William “Bill” and Sheri Mason of Corinth, Texas, Sylvia Hines of Little Rock, Arkansas, Bill and Judy Kamman of Houston, Texas, Larry and Carolyn Hawkins of Angleton, Texas, Charles and Shirley Pitt of Atlanta, Texas, James and Mary Ann Endsley of Owensboro, Kentucky, and Joel and Jerri Steger of Atlanta, Texas; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas with Don Crutcher officiatin­g. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 10:00 AM at the funeral home.

The family would like to send out a special thanks to the staff of Golden Villa Nursing Home, Dr. Dan Nichols, Heritage Hospice, and Bill and Wanda Vahle for the care, attention and love that was given to our Aunt Louise.

TOM CARLTON JR.

Dr. Tommy James Carlton Jr. “Tom”, age 57, of Texarkana, Arkansas passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, in an Oklahoma hospital while working.

Dr. Carlton was born on March 16, 1965, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to his parents Tommy Carlton Sr. and Betty Hatridge Carlton Eddings. He was a member of the Hickory Street Baptist Church, where he taught the Men’s Sunday School class. Tom was a 2013 doctoral graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theologica­l Seminary.

Tom is preceded in death by his father Tommy Carlton; and one daughter, Lauren Elizabeth Carlton.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 38 years, Elizabeth “Beth” White Carlton of Texarkana, Arkansas; two children, Mary Carlton Stanfield and husband Josh of Derby, Kansas, Rachael Carlton Baldwin of Texarkana, Arkansas; grandchild­ren, Elizabeth Ruth Stanfield, Hannah Grace Baldwin, and baby Jamie Deanne Stanfield due in August; his parents Betty Carlton Hatridge Eddings and Clyde Eddings; his sister Cindy Carlton of Texarkana, Arkansas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces, great nephews; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Texarkana Texas Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Strebeck and Dr. Randy Hales officiatin­g. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Ashdown, Arkansas under the direction of Texarkana Texas Funeral Home located at 3515 Texas Blvd. Texarkana, Texas 75503.

Visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 12:30 P.M.

SATURDAY DALE FORD

Dale Ford, age 73, of Ashdown, Arkansas, passed from this life on Thursday, June 9, 2022, into the arms of his Heavenly Savior.

Dale was born and raised in Ashdown and loved his hometown. He was employed at Cooper Tire Rubber Company for many years but was best known for owning Ashdown Donut Shop. Dale said many times his most cherished role was being called Paw-paw by his grandson Ellis. Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Ruby Ford, two sisters, Francis Tribble and Ollie Ardwin, and three brothers, Billy Bob Ford, Allie Ford, and

Jimmy Ford.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Deanna Ford; two grandchild­ren, Zora Law and Ellis Dale Ford of Texarkana, Texas; three sisters, Betty Noll of Dallas, Texas; Carolyn Travis, Eval Sanders, and Helen Wright of Ashdown, Arkansas; one sister-in-law, Sherry Ford of Wake Village, Texas.

A memorial visitation will be Monday, June 13, 2022, at Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas, from 6:00 P. M. to 7:30 P. M.

EMMA OWENBY

Emma Ruth Owenby age 87 passed away on June 10, 2022, at her home. She was born in 1935 in Texarkana, Arkansas where she grew up and lived most of her life. She Graduated from Arkansas High in 1953. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Lloyd Ferrell Owenby; parents, James Ira Dean and Ruth Fenton Elliott of Texarkana Arkansas, and two brothers, Jimmy and Bill Elliott.

Emma gave her heart to Jesus in November of 2020. Lead by a dear friend who cared. She had been a Member of Christ United Methodist Church for many years. Started attending Faith Baptist of Texarkana, Arkansas in the last few years of her life.

She is survived by one son James “Jimmy” Owenby and wife Peggy of Texarkana; two daughters Becky Wright and her husband Jay Wright of Austin, Texas, and Sheryl Smith and her husband Mike Smith of Genoa, Arkansas; one sister, Ann Honeycutt of Texarkana, Arkansas.

She is survived by 8 grandkids, 18 great grandkids & many nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly.

Graveside services will be at Harmony Grove Cemetery on Monday June 13, 2022 at 11:30 AM Lead by Bro. Wallace Edgar. Burial is under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas. Donations can be made in memory of Emma Owenby to Faith Baptist Church building fund or Christ United Methodist. The family will be at Faith Baptist in Texarkana, Arkansas following graveside services.

JOSEPH STUART

It is with a sad heart that Elizabeth Cobb and Marguerite Branch announce the death of their brother, Joseph “Jack” Stuart. Jack, age 79, of Texarkana, Arkansas, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022, in a local nursing facility. He was born on July 1, 1942, in Ozan, Arkansas, to Chess Stuart and Ora Hamilton Stuart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his five brothers, Chuck, John, James, Robert, and Paul.

Left to cherish his memory are his two sisters, Elizabeth Cobb, Marguerite Branch, and a number of other relatives and friends.

Cremation arrangemen­ts are being made under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home – Texas. No services are scheduled at this time.
