TEXARKANA, Ark. — Arkansas High continues to add to its coaching staff with the announcement of Sirl Wright being named the new special teams coordinator and linebackers coach.

Wright, who helped lead Class 2A Strong to a state championship and an 11-o record as head coach, will also be the Razorbacks’ track coach, according to a social media post by the school. He helped guide the Bulldogs to consecutive runner-up finishes.

“We’re excited to bring in Sirl,” Arkansas High Athletic Director and head football coach William “Trey” Outlaw said. “He brings in many years of football and track experience to Arkansas High. He has found a lot of success with what he does, including a 2022 state championship at Strong. We’re excited to see where he takes the track program as well.

“Just very excited to add him to our programs.”

Wright coached Strong for four season, with the first three seeing the Bulldogs struggle playing 11-man football before moving to the eight-man ranks last season.

The move proved to be a big success for the program, which capped a perfect season after overcoming an 18-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat Mountain Pine, 66-60, in the state championship game.

“The Strong-Huttig School District would like to wish Coach Sirl Wright the best as he transitions to his new role in Texarkana,” StrongHuttig School District Superintendent Kimberly Thomas said. “Although he will be greatly missed, we are grateful for his leadership in our district and for the positive impact he has had with our students, parents and our community over the past four years. Coach Wright has etched his name in history at Strong High School with the first 8-Man state championship and we know he will take that same winning spirit in his new role in Texarkana School District.”
