Museums system to host patriotic cemetery tour
TEXARKANA, Texas — The Texarkana Museums System will help celebrate Independence Day this year by conducting a special living history tour at the State Line and Woodlawn cemeteries.
This guided walking tour is the latest monthly Texarkana Twilight tour designed to cast the Twin Cities’ history in a different light, TMS Curator Jamie Simmons said in a news release.
The tour will include living history performers who will dress and speak in the personas of several of Texarkana’s past residents. This month’s tour will include performances which will honor locals and their contributions to freedom and liberty, Simmons said.
“Although we’ve visited both the State Line and Woodlawn cemeteries a few times before, there are always new stories to tell,” Simmons said. “To celebrate July 4th, we decided to highlight Texarkana’s contribution to our nation’s independence.”
Besides the State Line and Woodlawn cemeteries, the tour will also include the Masonic and Mount Sinai cemeteries.
Part of the tour’s path will include walking through grassed areas, so guests should dress for the weather. Bottled water will be provided at the event’s check-in area.
Tour tickets are now available and must be purchased in advance for $15 or $10 for TMS members
Tickets may be purchased either at the Texarkana Museum of Regional History or online at TexarkanaMuseums.org/ events.
(The tour will start at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 2, at 3200 N. State Line Ave. For directions, suggested parking or other information, call 903-793-4831.)
