Mae Lois Burleson, 86, of Atlanta, TX passed away on Thursday, September 26th. Mae Lois was born in the Shiloh community of Atlanta, TX, on December 5, 1935 to Winnie Mae Stiger Gaither and Eddie Lee Gaither. She attended and graduated with the highest honors from Booker T. Washington Hight School in Atlanta. She furthered her education at Bishop College in Marshall, TX. and East Texas State University in Commerce, TX where she received her Master of Education degree and Librarian certificat­e. She began her teaching career for Atlanta ISD in 1959. After a long and successful career as an educator she retired in 2004.

Mae Lois was truly a virtuous woman, a family-oriented woman and had a love for people. She loved her community. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star (Mt. Olive Grand Chapter of Texasstarl­ight Chapter No. 1410.

Mae Lois was preceded in death by her husband Waymon Burleson, a son Waylon Burleson, fathers Eddie Lee Gaither and Selestus W. Rhoads and her mother Winnie Mae Rhoads.

She is survived by her daughter Winnieola Burleson, her son D’waylon Deshea Burleson, three grandchild­ren Joshua Burleson (Kendra), Paqualita Burleson and Amaris Burleson; two great-grandchild­ren Joshua Burleson, Jr. and J’siah Burleson; one brother Elbert Eugene Gaither, Sr. and three sisters Marie Thomas, Mable Doris Hodge and Deborah Rhoads.

Visitation will be Friday, October 7th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Funeral service will be Saturday, October 8th at Calvary Tabernacle in Queen City, TX at 1:00 p.m.
