LEROY MILES

-

Leroy “Sonny” Miles was born September 17, 1948 in Texarkana, Arkansas to the late Roy and Eula Dixon-miles. He was the youngest of six children and the only son. He was preceded in death by four sisters: Arwilder Smith, Irene Faniel, Corene Ware, and Ethel Walker.

His education included Carver Elementary, and Booker T. Washington High School in Texarkana, Arkansas, and Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas.

He has been a member of Eleventh Street Baptist Church all of his life. He served as chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Superintendent, a member of the Leadership Team, a member of Brotherhood, and he had a passion for singing in the choir.

In 1999, Leroy retired from the Texas Department of Human Service, after 29 years, as a case manager. He didn’t like retirement so he went to work for the Texarkana Independent School District and retired a second time in 2009 after being there for 10 years. This time, retirement allowed him to do what he really loved and that was fishing.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 PM. Funeral service will be Friday, November 18, 2022 at 11:00am at Eleventh Street Baptist Church in Texarkana, Arkansas under the direction of Haynes Mortuary. Burial will be in the Chapelwood Memorial Gardens in Wake Village, TX.
