TAMU-T women win 19th straight
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas A&M University-Texarkana won its 19th straight and remained undefeated in Red River Athletic Conference play by downing Huston-Tillotson, 83-59, in women’s basketball action Thursday night.
The Eagles improve to 22-1 overall and 17-0 in conference. Their last loss was an 86-81 decision to RV Rust College in Holly Springs, Miss., on Nov. 18, 2022.
TAMU-T men’s team also won, beating Huston-Tillotson, 75-64, Thursday night.
The league-leading Eagles had five double-figure scorers, led by Diamond Sweats with a game-high 33 points. Reneya Hopkins added 20 points, Bre’Asiajah Mathews 17, Naomi Takleab 16 and Vasha Moore 14.
Irish Winn paced Huston-Tillotson with 23 points.
The TAMU-T men ran their record to 20-5 overall and 13-4 in RRAC.
The Eagles were topped by Kobe Powell with 25 points, Tray Spencer added 18 and Connor Ouelette 13.
Spencer, a senior from Fort Worth, Texas, broke the school record by scoring 40 points in an 87-74 win over LSU-Alexandria last Saturday.
The Eagles will face Our Lady of the Lake in a doubleheader today at San Antonio. The women square off at 2 p.m. and the men at 4 p.m.
FOUKE IN JR. HIGH FINALS
JESSIEVILLE, Ark. — Fouke Junior High girls will face Glen Rose in the District 7-3A finals at 2 p.m. today on Jessieville’s gymnasium.
Fouke (18-1) punched its ticket to the district championship game with a 44-27 semifinal victory over Bismarck on Thursday.
The Lady Panthers leading scorers were: Olivia Morrow (9 points), Lilie Weitzel (8 points) and Andi Palmer (7 points).
Fouke outscored Bismarck 17-6 in the fourth quarter to seal the win. The Panthers led 16-7 at halftime.
