Moran tours Bowie County with eye to extending federal support
DEKALB, Texas — The city of Dekalb received a federal visit Monday.
District 1 Rep. Nathaniel Moran came to the city of about 1,500 as part of a tour of Bowie County.
“We try to make these visits often enough to let our citizens know that we want their concerns both heard and addressed in the best and sincerest ways we can,” Moran said. “We want to serve out residents the best way we know how — because we have and desire that obligation — and I certainly want to do all I can to help.”
Moran’s district includes 17 counties in Northeast Texas.
To put responsibilities in geographic perspective, Moran said the state of New Jersey can fit into his district.
“We also want to understand what local businesses need to help us bring all we can serve area,” he said.
After Dekalb, Moran and his staff visited New Boston and traveled east to Texarkana Regional Airport in Texarkana, Arkansas.
The airport is jointly operated by both Texarkanas.
Among the topics Moran discussed with airport officials is federal funding for a runway-extension project.
Moran, who began his congressional service in January, cited a recent piece of federal legislation he helped to initiate — a bill allowing for improved storm radar tracking in rural areas.
“We filed this bill to help improve storm tracking and better weather monitoring. This bill went on to pass, and it became law to help better detect severe storm buildup, development and tracking,” he said.
Moran said he and his staff will continue their in-person visits in the district throughout the year.
