“Upgraded” (2024)

Take off with the new romantic comedy “Upgraded,” premiering Friday, Feb. 9, on Prime Video. An ambitious intern with sky-high dreams of a career in the art world,ana (Camila Mendes,“riverdale”) works tirelessly to try to impress her demanding boss, Claire (Marisa Tomei, “Spider-man: Homecoming,” 2017).When Ana’s upgraded to first class on her flight while on a work trip, she meets a handsome and wealthy fellow traveler,will (Archie Renaux, “Shadow and Bone”), who mistakes Ana for her boss.when Ana goes along with what at first seems like a harmless little white lie, it sets off a chain of events that takes her down a glamorous path to romance and opportunit­y. But when her true identity threatens to surface, it could all come crumbling down around her. Directed by Carlson Young (“Scream:the TV Series”),“upgraded” is written by Christine Lenig (“Unsolved Mysteries”), Luke Spencer Roberts (“The Duel,” 2023) and Justin Matthews (“The Morning Show”).the cast is rounded out by Lena Olin (“Alias”),anthony Head (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”),thomas Kretschman­n (“Gran Turismo,” 2023), Grégory Montel (“Call My Agent!”), Rachel Matthews (“Looking For Alaska”), Fola Evans-akingbola (“The Night Agent”),aimee Carrero (“The Menu,” 2022),Andrew Shulz (“You People,” 2023) and Saoirse-monica Jackson (“Derry Girls”).

“The Silent Service Season One - The Battle of Tokyo Bay”

After making its debut last year, the Japanese action drama film “The Silent Service” gets the series treatment on Prime Video.the newly adapted action series, “The Silent Service Season One — The Battle of Tokyo Bay,” premieres Friday, Feb. 9. Based on the legendary Japanese manga franchise, written and illustrate­d by artist Kaiji Kawaguchi, the series follows the story of Shiro Kaieda (Takao Osawa, “Ichi,” 2008), from the declaratio­n of the independen­t state of Yamato and negotiatin­g a military alliance with Japan to the subsequent Battle of Tokyo Bay. Recut to present the story on an even grander scale, “The Silent Service Season One” includes scenes not shown in theaters, as well as the continuati­on of the story after the end of the film. From original film director Kohei Yoshino (“Wednesday Disappears,” 2020), the series is written by first-time screenwrit­ers Hikaru Takai and Tetsuo Kamata.

“Alfie” (2004)

First seen in the eponymous 1966 British film, and then again in its sequel, Alfie Elkins is back and cheekier than ever in the 2004 film, “Alfie,” now available to stream on Prime Video. Starring Jude Law (“Closer,” 2004) as the titular character

— originally played by Michael Caine (“The Dark Knight,” 2008) in the 1966 version and by Alan Price (“O Lucky Man!,” 1973) in its sequel, “Alfie Darling” (1975) — this Charles Shyer (“Private Benjamin,” 1980) directed flick sees Alfie take on Manhattan as a limo-driving lothario, a man who regularly indulges in one night stands with his clientele. Following a series of complicate­d affairs, a health scare and an unexpected pregnancy, Alfie learns he’s run out of second chances, and must change his ways once and for all.

“Bridesmaid­s” (2011)

From director Paul Feig (“Freaks and Geeks”) and producing powerhouse Judd Apatow (“Knocked Up,” 2007), the highly-acclaimed 2011 comedy, “Bridesmaid­s,” is now available to stream on Prime Video. With a stellar script written by Kristen Wiig (“Saturday Night Live”) and Annie Mumolo (“This Is 40,” 2012), this fun-loving flick follows down-on-her-luck Annie (Wiig), a single woman in her mid-thirties who is asked to be the Maid of Honor in the upcoming nuptials of her best friend, Lilian (Maya Rudolph, “Away We Go,” 2009). In the process, Annie is introduced to Lilian’s rag-tag group of bridesmaid­s – played by the likes of Melissa Mccarthy (“The Heat,” 2013), Wendi Mclendonco­vey (“Reno 911!”) and Ellie Kemper (“The Office”) – and must pull herself together to outdo Lilian’s new, rich, put-together friend, Helen (Rose Byrne, “Neighbors,” 2014), who tries to best Annie at every turn.
