Dedication bricks can be purchased for Mayor’s Clock
YARDLEY BOROUGH -Here’s your chance to buy a piece of Yardley.
As part of the Mayor’s Clock project, commemorative bricks can be purchased and engraved with your name, organization, a special occasion or in memory of a loved one, etc. They will be installed in the sidewalk area around the new clock, which is now keeping time in front of the Yardley Borough Hall on South Main Street.
cunds raised from the sale of the bricks will go toward a maintenance being established for the clock.
The 17-foot Howard Replica post clock was the dream of the late Borough Manager Bill Win- slade Jr., who died unexpectedly on March 21, 2011.
“After Bill passed, I was asked if there was an organization that memorial contributions could be made to,” said Winslade’s wife, kancy. “It didn’t take more than a minute to decide -- the Yardley Borough Mayor’s Clock cund.
“This was Bill’s dream,” said kancy. “We finished it for him.”
The clock was dedicated in April of this year.
kancy, who is now coordinating the brick project, said purchasing a brick is a nice way to commemorate a special event, honor a family member or friend or memorialize someone special.
Any new brick purchased will be added to the bricks already in place around the clock recognizing the American Legion, hnowles-Doyle Post; Yardley- Makefield VcW, Post ko. 6393; and Customer’s Bank. Individuals can make donations, too.
The clock, which is dedicated to the borough’s past mayors, is energy efficient and requires little maintenance. The Verdin Bells C Clocks company timekeeper features backlit dials for nighttime display and is equipped with solar panels.
If there is a power outage in town, the clock will automatically reset itself one hour every six minutes.
