Neshaminy’s Redskins ambushed by Souderton Indians

cor BucksiocalSports LANdHOoNE — When Neshaminy quarterback Hugh Hart raced 53 yards on the second play of the game, it looked like things would be easy last Friday night.

Well, it turned out to be easy, not for the team you’d expect as visiting Souderton ambushed formerly undefeated Neshaminy by the score of 18-7 on Heartbreak oidge.

Neshaminy came into this game at 2-0 and had not allowed the opposition to cross the 50-yard line all season. This all changed in a hurry when Souderton’s Tyler McKeon intercepted a pass to end Neshaminy’s opening drive and then Anthony Williams ripped off a 79-yard rushing burst to the oedskin 10 yard line.

Two plays later, Williams plowed into the end zone on a 9-yard run and Souderton E2-1F had a lead it would never relinquish all evening.

There was nothing fluky about the victory for the Suburban One American League team over the SONL’s Neshaminy.

For much of the evening, Souderton controlled the line scrimmage and had Neshaminy back on its heels with a power running game. Particularly in the first half when the Indians churned out a whopping 273 yards against a Neshaminy squad that looked both overconfident and flat.

While Souderton used a variety of backs, the biggest was Williams, who at one point had 143 yards on just three carries. After opening the scoring early in the first quarter, Williams exploded with a 55-yard touchdown run to build the lead to 12-0 before the game had barely settled in.

Neshaminy gained its footing a bit from there, but hurt itself with a fumble and had only two first downs in the first half. Even worse, from a Neshaminy viewpoint, Souderton was able to score a third touchdown late in the second quarter when fullback Jarrett oeinhard rumbled up the middle on a 20-yard touchdown run.

Everyone figured Neshaminy would come out smoking in the second half, but this didn’t happen either. Although it didn’t score, Souderton was able to move the ball enough to chew up the clock. A key play in the third quarter was a 45-yard halfback option pass by Williams to Kyle Wenger.

Neshaminy finally got on the board with 5:49 remaining when Holt threw a 21-yard Ta pass to Justin Andrews, but it was way too little, too late.

Souderton was able to recover the ensuing onsides kick and then ran out the clock as its offensive line continued to get the better of Neshaminy’s defensive front.

Very few people saw this one coming in a game that should definitely serve as a wakeup call for Neshaminy heading into the league portion of its schedule.
