NEWTOWN BOROUGH – The Amazing Race is coming to the streets of Newtown on Saturday.

Well, not the TV show exactly, but a version of it.

A committee from the Newtown Library Company is putWLng WRgHWKHU WKH finDO GHWDLOV IRU the Newtown race, which will loosely be based on the reality television show, which sends teams of two scrambling around the world in search of clues.

“It’s going to be a really fun day – a chance to get out and do something fun with the family and maybe learn something about Newtown,” said library spokeswoma­n Donna Gusty. “Plus it’s going to raise money for the library to purchase books. It’s going to be a win-win all the way around,” she said.

Contestant­s in the Newtown race, like their counterpar­ts on the TV show, will compete in teams of two.

At the beginning of the race, each team will be given a clue (trivia of Newtown) that will lead them to a designated location in town - a “pit stop” if you will.

Participan­ts also will receive t-shirts emblazoned on the back with maps of the WRZn VR WKHy FDn figuUH RuW ZKHUH WKHy DUH going, even if they aren’t from Newtown.

At each “pit stop” the teams will be asked to successful­ly complete a task – some silly, some challengin­g - before being given a yellow ribbon and a clue for their next location.

The winning team will receive a $200 cash prize with trophies going to the runners-up.

The race is scheduled to step off on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a rain date of Sunday, Sept. 30. The cost is $50 per team.
