Exhibit on shipbuilding in Harriman
The Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library, 680 Radcliffe Street, invites the public to the exhibit, “Harriman and the Merchant Shipbuilding Corporation: the Rise of a Community.” The exhibit takes the viewer on a tour of Bristol’s shipbuilding industry during World War I and the town of Harriman that grew with it. The event begins Thursday, Oct. 11 with an opening reception from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and continues through Saturday, November 3, 2012 during regular library hours. Featured are historic photographs, memorabilia, and news articles illustrating how an entire town, complete with a hotel, hospital, and schools, was planned and built in only two years. Learn how the Merchant Shipbuilding Corporation made a lasting impact on Bristol Borough and discover how this historic endeavor shapes Bristol today.
