Bristol bounces back with win over Morrisvill­e

Sometimes, even the team possessing the big lead can fall into a rut.

That was the case last Wednesday, Sept. 12 in BrisWoO’V fiHOd KoFNHy duHO DW home against Morrisvill­e.

The Warriors had been methodical in compiling a 4-0 halftime lead against the Lady Bulldogs yet here they were, penned in their own end for much of the second half.

Bristol was given a rude DwDNHnLnJ wKHn D 0oUULVvLOO­H dHIHndHU flDWWHnHd MunLoU IoUwDUd 0DUy WDOOLFN, wKo wDV mDNLnJ D EUHDN IoU the cage.

“We were fueled by the IDFW WKDW onH oI ouU NHy SODyHUV (WDOOLFN) NHSW JHWWLnJ hurt,” said Scalzo. “It made us all mad but we didn’t wanna come out and hurt the other team; we wanted to come out and score.”

WDOOLFN mDnDJHd Wo SLFN herself up and, ironically, had a hand in the Warriors’ fiIWK JoDO oI WKH JDmH. WLWK D little more than two minutes to go, she crossed the ball over to freshman hatie Mor- ris, who tallied her second goal of the contest.

Scalzo had a big day on offense, too, compiling a goal and two assists. She got the scoring started in the openLnJ mLnuWHV oI WKH fiUVW KDOI when she fed sophomore Olivia D’Emidio on a goal that put the home team up, 1-0. She teamed up with senior hrista Mosco for the second goal and tallied the third one herself on a rebound wLWK MuVW 3:58 Wo Jo unWLO WKH EUHDN.

“AV wH wHUH mDNLnJ ouU EUHDNDwDyV uS WKH fiHOd wH were doing a lot of giveDnd-JoHV Dnd SDVVLnJ EDFN and forth to each other,” explained Scalzo.

“Once we got in the circle, wH wouOd WDNH D VKoW Dnd then the person at the top of the post would tap it in.”

“Everyone was where they needed to be.”

Less than two minutes later, the Warriors threaded the needle from Scalzo to WalOLFN Wo 0oUULV IoU D 4-0 KDOItime lead. Bristol went on to D 5-0 wLn ovHU 0oUULVvLOO­H IoU LWV fiUVW wLn oI WKH yHDU Dnd D 1-1 mDUN Ln WKH BLcentenni­al Athletic League (BAL).

After getting shut out on WKH VFoUHEoDUd Ln WKHLU fiUVW two games, the Warriors scored seven times in their next two – both, wins over Morrisvill­e and ConwellEga­n Catholic.

“We’re young and a little LnHxSHULHn­FHd Ln VomH NHy positions,” admitted crench.

“We have some 9th-and 10th-graders that are still in the process of developing WKHLU VNLOOV Dnd OHDUnLnJ WKH game. They’re hard runners Dnd woUNHUV – MuVW LnHxSHULen­ced.”

Among the players returning to the Bristol lineup DUH WDOOLFN, 6FDOzo, Dnd D’Emidio. Not surprising­ly they play a big hand in the team’s offense.

When the Warriors lost their home and season opener to silla Jo Marie by a 6-0 VFoUH, FUHnFK FDmH EDFN Dnd made some changes in the team’s formations. While Bristol still lost 2-0 to JenNLnWown, WKHy wHUH Ln WKH game right up until the end.

“The formation that I put uV Ln DJDLnVW -HnNLnWown was better suited to the peo- SOH WKDW , KDvH Ln NHy SoVLtions,” said crench.

,W VKowHd DV WKH DUDNHV didn’t score their second JoDO unWLO WKH ODVW 30 VHFondV of the battle.

“rp until that point, we were right in that game and there were some times where we were right there to put the ball in the net and LW MuVW dLdn’W KDSSHn,” Hxplained crench.

“That game could have gone a whole different way KDd wH WDNHn DdvDnWDJH oI our opportunit­ies.”

Still, crench was pleased with the way the girls EounFHd EDFN Ln D WouJK UoDd mDWFK DW -HnNLnWown after losing so badly at home to the Jems.

With graduation, the coach was left with a few holes to fiOO LnFOudLnJ mLdfiHOdHU Morgan Cullen, forward 0DFNHnzLH FHLJKW, dHIHnders Amanda Henson and Courtney Snyder along with NHHSHU .LDnD HHywood. AOO have graduated.

Some of the up and coming players for Bristol this year include freshmen hatie Morris and Sabrina Sabatini up top along with Diamond FHUJuVon Ln WKH mLdfiHOd.

“She’s a very strong runner Vo VKH LV D Jood mLdfiHOdHU,” said crench, of cerguson. “I FDn UHOy on KHU Wo JHW EDFN; VKH MuVW nHHdV Wo OHDUn WKH JDmH D OLWWOH moUH Dnd UHfinH KHU VNLOOV.”

In goal for Bristol this seaVon LV VHnLoU 6DmmLMo RHDUdon who has stepped into the position place of Heywood.

“She needs to learn a little more about the position and UHfinH KHU VNLOOV EuW , OLNH her aggressive­ness,” said crench. “She’s not afraid of the ball and she’s coachable.

“Hopefully, as the season progresses, she’ll come on.”

It’s a hope, that more than OLNHOy WKH FoDFK KDV IoU WKH entire team.
