Halloween Art Scene to bring fall spirit to town

-

NEWTlWN - lrganizers of the Newtown Halloween Art Scene are stepping it up a notch this year and are looking forward to lots more community members becoming involved to decorate the town in new ways.

Formerly a window painting event, the fall shindig, scheduled for Saturday, lct. 20 is expanding to a creative festival, including scarecrows to line the streets and a more elaborate version of last year’s Cupcake Wars joining the more than 100 people who participated in the window decorating on State and Sycamore streets.

State Street businesses will be joining in the fun. Countryside Frames and Radhouse Studio, on the corner of State Street and Washington Avenue, will have face painting and a caricature artist in front of their store. iive music and sidewalk sales will add to the festivities. A balloon artist will be available for kids taking part or observing the fun.

“This year the Halloween Art Scene looks to be what we envisioned when we got involved with it a few years ago,” said gackie haizar, a committee member who painted a window with her friend haren iawler three years ago when the event was just starting up again. “The window painting, the cupcake wars and now scarecrows lining the streets, it’s going to be a really fun day for all of Newtown.”

The Art Scene committee is hoping to motivate people to start planning their windows, scarecrows and digging out their cup- cake recipes and designs. aetails are available at newtownbbc.org, with applications to download.

The Newtown Halloween Art Scene takes place Saturday, lct. 20 beginning at 9 a.m. The window painting is a “for fun” event, to decorate the town. The window painting is BYlB (bring your own brushes).

Posts to build the scarecrows on are available at Newtown Hardware House, they have plenty at $1.99 each. For larger scarecrows, two could be put together.
