A new location, plenty of beer at Brewfest 2012
NEWTlWN TlWNSHIP – Beer will be flowing, live music will fill the air and there will be plenty of food to savor. But probably the best thing about the 7th Annual lriginal Brewfest is that you get to choose the brew.
In the weeks leading up to the lct. 20 event, Brewfest participants are encouraged to send requests for their favorite brews to info@allaboutnewtown.org. For a listing of the participating breweries, visit www. allaboutnewtown. org and click the Brewfest tab on the left hand side of the page.
“sery seldom does the general public get the opportunity to pick the beers,” said Brewfest chairman Paul Salvatore. “We’re actually letting people pick the beers.
“There are certain tried and true ones that we’re going to have,” continued Salvatore. “But if there’s something people really want, we’re definitely going to get that.”
Beer will be on tap from 12 to 5 p.m. at a new location – the Newtown Athletic Club, located off of the Newtown Bypass at Penns Trail. The NAC is partnering with the Newtown Corporation for the first time this year to present the event.
“We’re excited about partnering with the NAC and expect it will be the permanent home of Brewfest going forward,” said Salvatore. “Events like this draw people from all over the area and beyond, and one of the benefits is that some might decide to relocate their business to Newtown.”
The beer will be flowing under a large tent set up on the grounds of the NAC and inside one of the NAC’s gymnasiums. And two stages will feature live bands performing at both locations.
More than 175 beers will be on tap, including a good mix of specialty and seasonal brews like the hugely popular Pumpking and lktoberfest beers.
“We’ll have beer from all over the world,” said Salvatore. “We’ll also have a lot of American craft beers, which is hot growing segment.” And back by popular demand will be the blueberry beer, he said.
Also making a return visit to Brewfest will be a special tent devoted to home brewers. Beer lovers are invited inside to sample and judge the best brews of the day.
For the serious beer drinkers and those thirsty for more, a sIP ticket provides early admission to the event and the opportunity to sample 25 exclusive brews, some costing as much as several hundred dollars a case. They’ll also receive a food voucher and a Brewfest collector’s edition t-shirt for the price of a $70 ticket.
“Where else do you get to try beer that’s $195 a case?” asked Salvatore.
“People actually come to Brewfest to learn about beer,” said committee member Mike Petrucci, the president of the Newtown Business Association. “In fact, in the sIP section we’ll have informational sheets telling people where the beer is from and the ingredients. A lot of beer connoisseurs will come to this event just to taste something they’ve never tried before.”
Not a beer drinker? No problem.
A large selection of ciders and wines will be available to try.
And for designated drivers and people looking for a nonalcoholic alternative, Bucks County-based Hank’s Root Beer will be there with its popular assortment of drinks.
Complementing the beer will be a mouthwatering selection of food from The Temperance House, Applebee’s, Nomad Pizza, gulius Caribbean, henney’s Bar and drill among others, organized by him Carney from the Temperance House.
A shuttle service will again be available, picking up and dropping off beer lovers at Applebee’s, the dreen Parrot on Sycamore Street and in front of the Temperance House on State Street. The shuttle will run a continuous loop during the event.
