NEWTlWN - A dragon boat team from Bucks County will compete in Saturday’s 11th annual Philadelphia International aragon Boat Festival on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer.

The team, “A iove For iife” hails from Newown and is racing in celebration of the life of their friend hevin Edmonds, who recently passed away from pancreatic cancer at age 51. hevin’s love for life was evident every day and the team rowing in his honor will be raising money for pancreatic cancer with all proceeds going to Fund A Cure for Pancreatic Cancer.

“We are very grateful for all of the time, dedication, generosity and thoughtfulness of those rowing in hevin’s honor and of the Edmonds family. Their efforts will certainly make a difference as they have already raised over $7,000 which will enable us to make an even larger donation to the pancreatic cancer research team at Thomas gefferson rniversity this November in honor of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month,” said Robert Ciervo, chairman of Fund A Cure for Pancreatic Can- cer.

Christina Nelson, who is the captain of the aragon Boat team expressed that “‘A iove For iife’ is made up of a group of friends ranging in age from “30” something to “60” something with fitness levels ranging from avid athletes to weekend warriors. lur team wants to go out there and really show what our iove For iife is all about and we will do it in celebration of our friends and family members who are no longer with us due to pancreatic cancer.”

Sponsors of the team includeW The dap, Herspiegel Consulting iiC, McCaffrey’s Supermarket, lrphanides and Associates iiC, Waitkus aesign, iily Street Capital, Yogasphere, Clark’s Flower Shop, gefferson Hospital and Christine Edmonds in Memory of hevin Edmonds.

This year pancreatic cancer is expected to surpass breast cancer in terms of annual deaths by cancer in the rnited States at over 43,000 deaths. diven pancreatic cancer has a 5 year life expectancy of only 5% and 1 year life expectancy at only 25%, the National Cancer Institute must allocate more than just a measly 2% of their entire budget to research and find a cure. It must Fund A Cure. Now.
