The Advance of Bucks County

‘Show Some HEART’ at BCCC

-

BRISTOL - For more than a century, Bucks County has drawn artists attracted to its natural beauty. That tradition continues today, and will be celebrated Nov. 2 and 3 at the third annual “Show Some heART” exhibition and sale at Bucks County Community College’s Lower Bucks Campus.

In addition to raising funds for student scholarships, this year’s event will also raise funds to install a permanent art gallery at the college campus, located in Bristol Township.

The gallery will rotate exhibitions by local artists, according to Jim Sell, the campus’s executive director.

“The lower end of the county doesn’t have a permanent art gallery where our local artists can show their work. We thought it would be a good opportunity to serve the community and continue the mission of the college,” said Sell. “We’re seeking potential sponsors and donors who’d like to support this worthwhile project.”

Sell says a community coalition – consisting of the BCCC Foundation, the Artists of Bristol on the Delaware, the Artists of Yardley, the Grundy Foundation, the Arts C Cultural Council of Bucks County, ARTSBRIDGE, and the Lower Bucks County Chamber of Commerce – has set a goal to raise $10,000 to install the gallery overlooking the Student Commons area in the Lower Bucks Campus.

Meanwhile, the public can take in local artists’ work at “Show Some heART.” The opening reception takes place from 6 to 8W30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2 featuring a concert from the Bensalem High School Choral Music Department, an authors’ corner with local published authors, and a soup-off contest, with a $100 first prize. For a soup-off contest entry form, visit www.bucks.edu/foundation/ events. The exhibition continues with “Coffee C Art” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 3.

Admission is free. All artwork in the exhibition will be on sale for no more than $120, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting scholarships and the establishment of a permanent gallery. To exhibit in the show, artists can view a prospectus at www.bucks. edu/foundation/events. The Lower Bucks Campus is located at 1304 Veterans Highway (Route 413, formerly New Rodgers Road), Bristol.
