Neshaminy Redskins scalp Truman Tigers

- By Bill Kenny (2-3, 0-2) (3-2, 1-1)

cor BucksiocalSports LEsITTOWN — It’s mostly been all or nothing for the Neshaminy High School football team in 2012. But the Redskins got neither in last Friday night’s 48-13 victory over host Harry S Truman in Suburban One League National Conference play.

Neshaminy’s defense showed some big holes against the Tigers early, allowing a pair of long runs, only for the Redskins’ offense to score almost at will on the ground and through the air, turning the contest into a rout.

Entering last week’s game, both of Neshaminy’s previous wins came by shutout. In each, the starting defense didn’t allow the opposing offense to cross midfield.

Yet, the Redskins’ defense was anything but impenetrable in back-to-back defeats to Souderton and William Tennent.

Things didn’t start well for Neshaminy when the defense forced a punt on Truman’s first possession, only to surrender the ball on a muffed punt return. The Redskins seemed to partially block Bobby Hill’s kick, but the bounding ball struck a Neshaminy player downfield. Truman recovered to retain possession.

Two plays later, Truman fullback Jordan Livingston ran through the heart of the Neshaminy defense for a 47-yard gain to the Redskins’ 24. Truman stalled there, however and surrendered the ball on downs.

When Neshaminy finally got the ball for the first time, the Redskins marched 81 yards in 12 plays and scored on halfback Nate Hall’s 11yard run. Hall carried six times for 44 yards during the possession. He finished the game with 139 yards and three touchdowns.

Hall’s early work made the biggest impact. He rushed for 70 yards and a pair of touchdowns on just eight first-half carries to lead Neshaminy to a 28-7 halftime lead. Hall’s scoring jaunts went for 11 yards in the first quarter and 27 in the second.

A 4S-yard scoring pass from ‘Skins nB Hugh Hart to Justin Andrews also highlighted the second quarter for the Redskins before reserve halfback Devon Brown tacked on a 1S-yard touchdown run later in the period.

Truman’s lone response came midway through the second quarter when halfback Gianni Adamo burst through a gaping hole in the Neshaminy line for a S3yard touchdown scamper.

With lightning strikes reported in the area, the teams endured a 45-minute halftime.

Hall ran for a 58-yard touchdown on Neshaminy’s first snap of the third quarter, extending the ‘Skins lead to 35-7.

Neshaminy’s Tosh Thompson made it 42-7 early in the fourth quarter with a five-yard touchdown run, before Truman’s Marvin Todd raced 75 yards for a score with 10 minutes to go in regulation.

Matt Magdelinskas completed the scoring for the Redskins on a two-yard touchdown run with five minutes to go.
