Developer extends parking privileges

-

Developer Allan Smith has agreed to allow the borough the use of his parking lot behind the Wine and Spirits Store at least through 2013 with the understanding that at some point in 2013 he may have to utilize some of the spaces for contractors and fencing during construction of the new Wine and Spirits Store. When that occurs, Council President Bob Walker said parking would be made available behind the former Stockburger building to make up for the number of parking spaces he would be taking away from the lot behind the Wine and Spirits Store. The borough uses the lot for permit parking from Monday to Saturday. “We will still be able to have T4 or T5 parking spaces going into 2013 for permit parking,” said Walker. “Beyond that, we’ll take it as it comes but we will have permit parking available probably through 2013.” Walker added that “the future development of the property will be the driving force as to how permit parking will occur, whether we’ll have a need for permit parking or whether a garage facility or other parking facilities will be able to absorb the parking needs of the borough beyond 2013.” The site will eventually be redeveloped as part of plans for the mixed use Steeple View project. Plans include development of office, residential and retail uses on land located between Centre Avenue and the former Stockburger property off of South State Street.
