Brewfest on tap for Saturday

BStaff reports eer will be flowing, live music will fill the air and there will be plenty of food to savor at Newtown’s Original Brewfest on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Newtown Athletic Club.

Beer will be on tap from 12 to 5 p.m. at the club, located off of the Newtown Bypass at Penns Trail. The festival takes place under a large tent set up on the grounds of the NAC and inside one of the NAC’s gymnasiums. And two stages will feature live bands performing both inside and outside the club.

More than 175 beers will be on tap, including a good mix of specialty and seasonal brews like the hugely popular Pumpking and Oktoberfes­t beers. Also making a return visit to Brewfest will be a special tent devoted to home brewers. Beer lovers are invited inside to sample and Mudge the best brews of the day.

For the serious beer drinkers and those thirsty for more, a VIP ticket provides early admission to the event and the opportunit­y to sample 25 exclusive brews, some costing as much as several hundred dollars a case. They’ll also receive a food voucher and a Brewfest collector’s edition t-shirt for the price of a $70 ticket.

A large selection of ciders and wines will be available to try. And for designated drivers and people looking for a non-alcoholic alternativ­e, Bucks County-based Hank’s Root Beer will be there with its popular assortment of drinks.

Complement­ing the beer will be a mouthwater­ing selection of food from The Temperance House, Applebee’s, Nomad Pizza, Julius Caribbean, Kenney’s Bar and Grill among others, organized by Kim Carney from the Temperance House.

A shuttle service will again be available, picking up and dropping off beer lovers at Applebee’s, the Green Parrot on Sycamore Street and in front of the Temperance House on State Street. The shuttle will run a continuous loop during the course of the event.

Tickets are $70 (VIP), $40 (general admission) and $10 (designated driver).
