Halloween scares up plenty of fun Oct. 27 at the annual Newtown Halloween Parade and Costume Contest. Participants are invited to compete for originality and interpretation of theme under the categories of “Pampered Pets,” “Halloween Humor,” “Halloween Horror,” “TV & Movies,” “Storybook & Fantasy,” “Parent & Child,” “Group theme,” “Sports” and “Youngest Dressed.” The Mayor’s Trophy winner is chosen from all categories. Registration is from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the Stocking Works parking lot on South State Street. Judging will be 9:15 to 9:50 a.m., also at the Stocking Works parking lot. The parade will step off promptly at 10 a.m. led by the Council Rock High School North Marching Band and proceed north on State Street before wrapping up at the Newtown Theatre, 120 N. State Street where the band will entertain. Prizes will be awarded and refreshments served inside the theater after the parade. The Newtown Halloween Parade is a rain or shine event. In the event of rain, registration, judging and awarding of prizes will take place at the Newtown Theatre starting at 9 a.m. Newtown’s Halloween Parade, an annual tradition for more than 60 years, is supported by area businesses and the Newtown Business Association, formerly the Newtown Business and Professional Association.
