Hal­loween scares up plenty of fun Oct. 27 at the an­nual New­town Hal­loween Parade and Cos­tume Con­test. Par­tic­i­pants are in­vited to com­pete for orig­i­nal­ity and in­ter­pre­ta­tion of theme un­der the cat­e­gories of “Pam­pered Pets,” “Hal­loween Hu­mor,” “Hal­loween Hor­ror,” “TV & Movies,” “Sto­ry­book & Fan­tasy,” “Par­ent & Child,” “Group theme,” “Sports” and “Youngest Dressed.” The Mayor’s Tro­phy win­ner is cho­sen from all cat­e­gories. Reg­is­tra­tion is from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the Stock­ing Works park­ing lot on South State Street. Judg­ing will be 9:15 to 9:50 a.m., also at the Stock­ing Works park­ing lot. The parade will step off promptly at 10 a.m. led by the Coun­cil Rock High School North March­ing Band and pro­ceed north on State Street be­fore wrapping up at the New­town The­atre, 120 N. State Street where the band will en­ter­tain. Prizes will be awarded and re­fresh­ments served inside the theater af­ter the parade. The New­town Hal­loween Parade is a rain or shine event. In the event of rain, reg­is­tra­tion, judg­ing and award­ing of prizes will take place at the New­town The­atre start­ing at 9 a.m. New­town’s Hal­loween Parade, an an­nual tradition for more than 60 years, is sup­ported by area busi­nesses and the New­town Busi­ness As­so­ci­a­tion, for­merly the New­town Busi­ness and Pro­fes­sional As­so­ci­a­tion.
