Schools to rock for hurricane relief

The concert will be held on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 4 p.m. at the North and Southampto­n Reform Church, 1380 Bristol Road, Churchvill­e. Tickets will be $10 each and may be purchased in advance at the participat­ing schools. Tickets will also be available at the door, assuming no sell-out in advance. All ticket proceeds will be donated to American Red Cross Disaster Relief.

“A lot of families and friends were affected by this storm. I grew up going to the beaches of New Jersey and I think this is a great opportunit­y to give something back,” said Rob droden, music director at the School of Rock Newtown. “I’m very excited to have these schools get together for this important cause.”

The concert will feature the participat­ing schools’ eouse Bands performing a wide variety of songs showcasing the history of Rock and Roll.

School of Rock Newtown opened its doors this past June, moving to the sillage at New- town Shopping Center from its former Lower Southampto­n location after nearly eight years of teaching music in a unique and interactiv­e way. Through an innovative curriculum and community atmosphere, students not only learn music, but develop problem-solving and teamwork skills that cross over into other areas of their lives. At the Newtown school they are also learning to give back to the community, recently participat­ing in and performing for the 2012 Bucks-Mont Light The Night Walk to support the Eastern PA Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

School of Rock operates 100 schools in 25 states, Mexico and Brazil, expanding to meet the demands of parents who want enriching after-school programs for their kids who want to play music.
