‘Nu­clear Pro­lif­er­a­tion’ talk at Pennswood

The rnited Na­tions As­so­ci­a­tion – rSA, Bucks County Chap­ter presents a guest lec­ture by Dr. An­drew h. Sem­mel on “Nu­clear Pro­lif­er­a­tion – Where Do We Stand” on Wed­nes­day, Dec. 5 be­gin­ning at 7 p.m. at Pennswood sil­lage, 1382 New­town-Langhorne Road, Mid­dle­town Town­ship.

Sem­mel is the head of AhS Con­sult­ing where he fo­cuses on is­sues re­lat­ing to nu­clear pro­lif­er­a­tion, the nu­clear non-pro­lif­er­a­tion regime, and peace­ful uses of nu­clear en­ergy.

ee con­sults on be­half of the In­ter­na­tional Atomic En­ergy Agency (IAEA), the r.S. De­part­ments of State and En­ergy in Washington, and writ­ten and spo­ken ex­ten­sively on nu­clear-re­lated, for­eign pol­icy, and na­tional se­cu­rity is­sues.

Sem­mel joined the De­part­ment of State in 2003 as Deputy As­sis­tant Sec­re­tary of State for Nu­clear Nonpro­lif­er­a­tion in the Bureau of In­ter­na­tional Se­cu­rity and Nonpro­lif­er­a­tion (ISN). eis pri­mary re­spon­si­bil­i­ties in­cluded the devel­op­ment and ex­e­cu­tion of poli­cies and ini­tia­tives to stem the spread of nu­clear weapons, co­op­er­a­tive threat re­duc­tion, and ex­port con­trols. ee rep­re­sented the De­part­ment in in­ter­a­gency meet­ings, bi­lat­eral and mul­ti­lat­eral in­ter­na­tional for a con­fer­ences and ne­go­ti­a­tions on nu­clear nonpro­lif­er­a­tion is­sues.

ee served on the per­sonal staff of r.S. Sen. Richard d. Lu­gar from 1987 to 2001, where he was the se­nior leg­isla­tive as­sis­tant for for­eign pol­icy. Prior to that, he served as a pro­fes­sional staff mem­ber of the Se­nate Com­mit­tee on cor­eign Re­la­tions, 1985-1987.
