‘Nuclear Proliferat­ion’ talk at Pennswood

The rnited Nations Associatio­n – rSA, Bucks County Chapter presents a guest lecture by Dr. Andrew h. Semmel on “Nuclear Proliferat­ion – Where Do We Stand” on Wednesday, Dec. 5 beginning at 7 p.m. at Pennswood sillage, 1382 Newtown-Langhorne Road, Middletown Township.

Semmel is the head of AhS Consulting where he focuses on issues relating to nuclear proliferat­ion, the nuclear non-proliferat­ion regime, and peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

ee consults on behalf of the Internatio­nal Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the r.S. Department­s of State and Energy in Washington, and written and spoken extensivel­y on nuclear-related, foreign policy, and national security issues.

Semmel joined the Department of State in 2003 as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Nuclear Nonprolife­ration in the Bureau of Internatio­nal Security and Nonprolife­ration (ISN). eis primary responsibi­lities included the developmen­t and execution of policies and initiative­s to stem the spread of nuclear weapons, cooperativ­e threat reduction, and export controls. ee represente­d the Department in interagenc­y meetings, bilateral and multilater­al internatio­nal for a conference­s and negotiatio­ns on nuclear nonprolife­ration issues.

ee served on the personal staff of r.S. Sen. Richard d. Lugar from 1987 to 2001, where he was the senior legislativ­e assistant for foreign policy. Prior to that, he served as a profession­al staff member of the Senate Committee on coreign Relations, 1985-1987.
