Holland residents honored with Kennedy Memorial Award
NORTHAMPTON - Holland residents goe Hand Sr., chairman of goe Hand Promotions, Inc., in Feasterville, and his son, goe Hand gr., president of gHP, were honored with the gohn F. Kennedy Memorial Award presented by the Northeast Community Center for Behavioral Health for their signLfiFDnt FRntrLbutLRns tR tKH mental health movement in America.
The award was presented at the organization’s annual dinner meeting at the historic Knowlton Mansion in Northeast Philadelphia on Nov. 16.
As a company, goe Hand Promotions has supported many causes and organizations such as the Special Olympics, Children’s Miracle Network Telethon and scholarship funds at various Philadelphia-area high schools.
Also, in 1995 the Hands established the goe Hand Boxing Gym and Computer to help the inner-city youth in Philadelphia. The stateof-the-art computer lab has reached more than 600 area children. The gym was recognized for its charitable works in 2002 when it received the prestigious Philadelphia Sports Congress Community Service Award.
Currently, both Hands play an active role in The Miracle League of Northampton Township where goe Hand gr. serves as the league’s president. The Miracle League, a nonSrRfit RrJDnLzDtLRn, SrRvides disabled children a safe and accessible facility so they can enjoy their love of sports. .
goe Hand gr. also serves on the board of directors for The Glen Mills Schools, the country’s oldest residential school for troubled young men.
The gFK Memorial Award was established in the name of the late president because of his role in the passage of the Community Mental Health Centers Act of 1963. It was through this act that community mental health centers were born. The award is presented annually and was established with the approval of the Kennedy Family.
Past recipients include Tipper Gore, former Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham and labor leader gohn Dougherty.
