Eagles say goodbye to last of the Sinnotts

The last of the Sinnotts have departed the ConwellEga­n Catholic (CEC) soccer program; the Eagles may never be the same.

“This team was not as solid in the back as we were WKH yHDr EHIRrH EuW 0DWW wDs D rHDO DnFKRr IRr us in JRDO this season,” said Roxberry.

0iNH wRuOd KDvH KDd PRrH RIIHnsivH suFFHss WKis season, said Roxberry, were it not for the fact the coach had to sometimes switch the offense from a 4-4-2 alignment to a 4-5-1 where the senior dropped back to the dHIHnsivH sidH RI PidfiHOd.

“Whenever I needed him uS WRS, KH SODyHd wHOO WKHrH with Jarrett Tolby and when we had to drop back to a more defensive system, he played a solid defensive mid,” explained Roxberry.

“It was hard to take him RuW IRr D ErHDWKHr EuW RnFH in a while he’d get winded Dnd ,’d KDvH WR WDNH KiP RuW. :H’d KDvH WR SuW KiP riJKW EDFN in EHFDusH KH’s suFK D big part of the team.”

Both Mike and Matt Sinnott played in the mhiladelSK­iD CDWKROiF LHDJuH DOOsWDr JDPH WKRuJK nHiWKHr wDs sHOHFWHd AOO-3CL.

“I might be a little biased EuW , WKRuJKW 0DWW dHsHrvHd a spot on the All-Catholic WHDP,” sDid WKH FRDFK. “BuW iW’s WRuJK IRr JRDOWHndHr­s; they only pick three.”

deorgetown rniversity forward and Council Rock North product Steve Neumann is one of 15 men’s soccer student-athletes that have been selected as semifiQDOL­sWs IRU WKH FRXQWUy’s top soccer award. Fifteen men and 15 women were announced on Wednesday, Nov. 28 as the Missouri Athletic Club’s (MAC) HerPDQQ 7URSKy sHPLfiQDOL­sWs.

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercolle­giate soccer. It is presented annually in January during a banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

NCAA Division I coaches will help select the winner. New this year is a fan voting component, conducted through LockerDome, which allows fans to also contribute to picking this year’s MAC Hermann Trophy winners.

From New Hope, Neumann is a three-time AllBig East honoree and 2M12 marked his second time on WKH fiUsW WHDP. HH Ls sHFRQG on the team in scoring with seven goals and 12 assists for 26 points. Neumann’s 12 DssLsWs UDQN KLP fiUsW LQ the Big East Conference and named All-mCL with Balas HDUQLQJ fiUsW WHDP KRQRUs and Tolby taking second. 0LGfiHOGHU -RUGDQ 6FKLDYR was also named to the second team. The Eagles say goodbye to 11 of its players. In addition to the Sinnotts, graduating in June are Balas, Tolby, Schiavo, Chris Elliott, Bobby darneau, hyle Larkins, Colin hugler, Tyler drabowski and Dylan mayne. fiIWK LQ WKH QDWLRQ LQ KHOSers. Neumann has played a vital role in deorgetown’s postseason run. Big Steve JDYH WKH HRyDs WKHLU fiUsW lead 26 minutes into in deorgetown’s Big East Tournament opener with St. John’s when he scored unassisted on a free kick that went in off the cross bar. St. John’s tied the game shortly after the half before the Hoyas went ahead for good on a goal by points and goals leader Brandon Allen, a freshman from Old Bridge.

In deorgetown’s Big (DsW sHPLfiQDO PDWFK wLWK Marquette Neumann agains gave the Hoyas a lead when he tallied with less than a minute left in the half, scoring form six yards out on a feed from senior Jimmy Nealis.

deorgetown earned its fourth NCAA Tournament berth in program history after tying for the Big East Blue Division Regular Season Championsh­ip and advancing to the Big East Tournament Championsh­ip dame before falling in double overtime to eventual champion Notre Dame. The Hoyas earned the third overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and have gone 2-M to advance to the Elite Eight IRU WKH fiUsW WLPH LQ SURJUDP history.

Neumann didn’t score in the Hoyas’ NCAA opening win over Charlotte but was credited with one of two assists on the only goal of the game by Allen which came in the 43rd minute (freshman heegan Rosenberry got the other helper on the game-winner).

In deorgetown’s Sweet 16 win over Syracuse, Neumann again failed to score in regulation and tied at 1-1, neither team scored in two overtime periods. Neumann came through went it counted however, registerin­g one of four penalty kicks for the Hoyas who outpaced the Orange 4-2 in mhs.

Last season, in addition to garnering First Team AllNorthea­st Region and First Team All-Big East honors, Neumann led deorgetown in scoring with 11 goals and seven assists for 29 points. This year, Allen holds that distinctio­n with 32 points though Brandon, Steve and senior Andy Riemer (17) are the only players with double-digit points.

At the beginning of the season, Neumann was on the Hermann Watch List along wLWK IRXU RWKHU sHPLfiQDOi­sts. He is one of six players from the Big East Conference which dominated the list including players from the rniversity of Connecticu­t, the rniversity of Louisville and the rniversity of Notre Dame. deorgetown was the only institutio­n to have a student-athlete on both the men’s and the women’s list wLWK sRSKRPRUH PLGfiHOGHU Daphne Corboz, of dreenbrook, N.J., earning a spot on the women’s side.

The top three vote-getters for each gender will be announced Thursday, Dec. 6. The winner will be announced during the MAC Hermann Trophy banquet in St. Louis on Friday, Jan. 11.

The Hoyas are getting ready to face local rival the rniversity of Maryland on Friday in the national sHPLfiQDOs LQ HRRYHU, AOD. deorgetown outpaced San Diego, 3-1, Saturday, Dec. 1 in the NCAA quarters and Neumann had a hand in all three goals including an own goal by the Toreros less than a minute after San Diego went ahead 1-M in the 49th minute.

The game-winner came in the 72nd minute on a Hoyas restart taken by Neumann, who served it perfectly to IUHsKPDQ PLGfiHOGHU 0HOvin Snoh who came sliding in from the left side before booting it into the far corner of the net. Insurance came with three minutes to go when a shot by senior Andy Riemer to the left post came ULJKW EDFN wKR fiQLsKHG to the middle, pushing the score, 3-1. Riemer was fed the ball in the box by none other than Neumann. capture their third straight NEC title.

A Suburban One League (SOL) All-League First Team selection in 2MM9, 7DyORU SODyHG fiHOG KRFNHy, basketball and lacrosse at mennsbury. Taylor was also named All-League Third Team for Lacrosse in her senior year.

Taylor also played for the MYSTu Field Hockey Club.
