Santa steals the show at holiday breakfast

- By Jeff Werner

NEWTOWN BOROUGH – When Christine Nelson goes out for breakfast, she doesn’t hold back. She invites 46 of her friends and family to join her.

In what has become an annual holiday tradition for the Nelson clan, Christina and her guests joined Santa for breakfast Saturday morning at The Temperance House on historic State Street in Newtown.

And everyone had a great time, serenaded with holiday songs performed by the Council Rock South Vocal Ensemble under the direction of Cory Axler while enjoying a sumptuous breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, bagels, fruit, pancakes and French toast.

And of course, no holiday breakfast would be complete without the arrival of Santa, who appeared as the ensemble welcomed his arrival by singing, “Here Comes Santa Claus.”

Dressed in his traditional red suit and sporting a full white beard, Santa made his way through the dining room greeting youngsters on his way to his seat of honor next to a festively decorated Christmas tree.

Parents captured the moment with cameras and video as Santa visited with the children and heard their Christmas wishes.

The Breakfast With Santa is presented by the Newtown Business Association as a benefit for the Neighborhood Outreach Foundation, which assists struggling families in the Council Rock School District with medical and utility expenses, rent and food. The NOF also gives out four scholarships each year to graduating seniors.

Paul Salvatore, who chairs the event for the NBA, couldn’t have been more pleased with this year’s turnout of 146 guests. Both seatings at 9 and 11 a.m. were packed with people, meaning all the more money to donate to a worthwhile cause.

“This helps the community,” Salvatore told the gathering. “vou’re doing a good thing today.”
