Movies in the Park opens with ‘Burbs’

The Newtown Borough Recreation Board has finalized details for its annual outdoor Movies in the Park summer film series. The 6-week film series will run on Wednesday evenings from June 26 through Aug. 7. Everyone is encouraged to come down to Linton Park, on Lincoln Avenue across from the CsS, with their blankets and chairs on Wednesday evenings for the free summer movies. At 8 p.m., live music will be provided prior to the screenings of “The Burbs,” “The Lion hing” and “Annie.” Something new this year will be themed movie events and attendees are encouraged to participat­e. Bring a beach towel and watch Jaws 2 (July 10). Wear a Santa hat and celebrate Christmas in July with Elf (July 17) and dig out the 1980s apparel for the Back to the Future 80s night (July 31). Themed music and trivia games with prizes will be offered prior to the screenings of the themed movies. And popcorn will be provided by the Newtown Borough Recreation Board, cold drinks will be available; donations will be accepted for the Newtown Theatre Digital Projector Fund Drive and for other local fundraisin­g groups. The summer Pd movie schedule features: June 26, The ‘Burbs; July 10, Jaws 2 (Beach Theme); July 17, Elf (Christmas in July Theme); July 24, The Lion hing; July 31, Back to the Future (80s Theme); and Aug. 7, Annie.
