SOL National/bicentenni­al crushed in Carpenter Cup The boys from Lower Bucks comitted nine errors in a 16-8 loss to Olympic-colonial

– It was a short ride for the Suburban One ieague ESOi) NationalLB­icentennia­l all-star team in the 2013 Phillies Carpenter Cup baseball tournament which kicked off Monday, June 1T at FDo Park in South Philadelph­ia.

SOi NationalLB­icentennia­l opened the tournament bright and early Monday morning with a 16-8 loss to South Jersey rival Olympic Colonial, which banged out 14 hits in the game. William Tennent junior sinnie Case E2-for-3) led the SOi NationalLB­Ai with a double, a home run, three oBI and a pair of runs scored.

Abington senior Trey Guaglionon­a E2-for-3) and Devon Prep sophomore Sean Phelan E2-for-2) also registered a pair of hits for the SOi NationalLB­icentennia­l.

Council oock North junior Tyler Callender smacked one over the fence at oichie Ashburn Field and Bristol junior Dylan bvert got a hit in one of his two atbats as did New Hope-Solebury junior Jake sesling.

Catcher Jon Gonzalez EWinslow Twp.) paced Olympic Colonial, going 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and four oBI. Steve Priolo Ebastern) was the pitcher of record for the winners, giving up a lone run on one hit while striking out two and walking none in two innings on the mound.

Pennsbury senior Brandon Garrett took the loss after giving up four runs on three hits while striking out two and walking one in two innings of work.

Council oock South senior oyan Fleming gave up two runs on three hits in two innings pitched. Calvary Christian senior Tyler Scheuer, of Newtown, surrendere­d six runs on five hits in 2L3 of an inning on the mound.

Co South junior Greg Paprocki pitched a scoreless inning and Holy Ghost Prep sophomore Tim Brennan tossed a hitless one while giving up an unearned run on a pair of errors by the SOi National infielders. SOi NationalLB­icentennia­l committed nine errors in the game.

SOi NationalL BAi also lost its opening Carpenter Cup game last year, falling 9-8 to Chester which registered four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to win in a walkoff.

In other Carpenter Cup action, the SOi American & Continenta­l defeated the Philadelph­ia Catholic ieague, 8-3, and iehigh salley ousted Delaware South, 11-3.

Using a single-eliminatio­n format, the 28th annual tournament continues June 21 at Ashburn Field with the tournament semifinals and finals taking place June 24 and 25 at Citizen’s Bank Park.

OlympicLCo­lonial has now won three of its last four opening-round contests and will face iehigh salley in a quarterfin­al matchup June 21 back at Ashburn Field Eresults not available at press time).
