WASHINGTON CROSSING - The David Library of the American Revolution in Washington Crossing has announced its summer Movie Series for 2013.

On Tuesday, August 6 at 7W30 p.m., the David Library will screen “The Gorgeous Hussy,” a 1936 MGM costume drama starring Joan Crawford as Margaret O’Neill, the controversial wife of John baton, a member of Andrew Jackson’s cabinet. Snubbed by Washington society because of her background as a tavern keeper’s daughter, “Pothouse Peg” was championed by President Jackson, to the detriment of his presidency. Lionel Barrymore co-stars as Andrew Jackson, with Beulah Bondi as Rachel Jackson, Franchot Tone as John baton, Sidney Toler as Daniel Webster and a supporting cast that includes James Stewart, Robert Taylor and Melvyn Douglas. On Tuesday, August 20, at 7W30 p.m., the David Library will show “The Devil’s Disciple,” the 1959 film version of George Bernard Shaw’s play that considers how the British lost the American colonies. Laurence Olivier plays General John Burgoyne, with Burt Lancaster as Rev. Anthony Anderson, a pacifist parson, and Kirk Douglas as Dick Dudgeon, a cowardly scamp who ends up a patriot hero.

Both films are well under two hours in length and are appropriate for family viewing. Tegan Rice, a David Library summer intern who is a master’s degree candidate at Northern Illinois rniversity, will be on hand at both screenings to provide historical context. Both screenings are admission free and will take place in Stone Hall at the David Library, 1201 River Road, Washington Crossing, 1.3 miles from the Washington Crossing Bridge. Reservations are not required. For further information, call 215-493-2233. p.m. 215-968-3861 or www.newtownpres.org/pages/flyingBsolo. Newtown Presbyterian Church, bttenger Hall. NEWTOWN
