Upper Merion topples Cardinals

It seems that nothing gets 8SSHU 0HULRn’V fiHOG KRFNHy team in the mood for an impressive win more than suffering through back-to-back losses.

A few weeks ago, the Vikings started the season with a pair of gut-wrenching losses and then roared back to defeat Upper Moreland by six goals.

Last week, the Vikings were crunched by Wissahicko­n and then were upset victims in a game against a much weaker Cheltenham squad. It was only the second time this season that Upper Merion lost two games in a row.

On Monday, the Vikings got back on the right track with a well-played 5-1 Suburban One American Conference win over Upper Dublin.

“We needed a win today,” said Upper Merion forward Dominique Gambone. “And, we knew we needed to work hard to get the win. 7KLV wDV GHfinLWHOy RnH RI our best games. We were ready to play and ready to beat the other team.”

Gambone’s two goals were bookends for the Vikings. The talented senior VFRUHG KHU fiUVW JRDO — DnG 8SSHU 0HULRn’V fiUVW JRDO — just over two minutes into the game off an assist from Danielle Sanfelice.

With 1:15 remaining in the second half, Gambone VFRUHG KHU VHFRnG JRDO — and Upper Merion’s last JRDO — WR JLvH WKH VLNLnJV a commanding four-goal advantage.
