Community sup­port showed UD is a very spe­cial place

Up­per Dublin Community Day 2012 was held on Satur­day, SeptK 29K Lead­ing up to the event, the weather “gu­rus” were call­ing for rain all week­endK How­ever, on Thurs­day all pre­dic­tions changed and the day was to be rain freeK Af­ter all, for those who have been in­volved with Community Day know, the event has had the good for­tune of never be­ing rained outK

I am sure that if you were in at­ten­dance, you agree that Community Day was a great suc­cess by all mea­suresK

By the num­bers, well more than 4,000 peo­ple came to the Up­per Dublin Civic Cam­pus for one ac­tiv­ity or an­oth­erK More than 100 groups, clubs and busi­ness were part of our mid­way (visit wwwKud­cdKinfo to see the com­plete list!); more than 1,000 peo­ple toured the new high school; more than 100 peo­ple com­pleted the UD Hunger Games by go­ing to all seven booths spon­sored by dif­fer­ent town­ship or­ga­ni­za­tions; more than 40 peo­ple com­peted in the UDAC Splash and DashK kumer­ous chil­dren painted pump­kins, got twisted bal­loon fiJuUHs, GDnFHG wLWK 5DGLR Dis­ney, climbed the rock wall or the mon­key bridge, went on the Up­per Dublin bd­u­ca­tion Foun­da­tion hayrides and par­tic­i­pated in many other fun ac­tiv­i­tiesK

Adults learned about community or­ga­ni­za­tions and busi­nesses, got an­tiques ap­praised, saw clas­sic cars and caught up with friends and neigh­borsK bvery­one en­joyed the food and nu­mer­ous per­form­ing groupsK

The early evening Gala Concert was an amaz­ing show­case of lo­cal tal­ent and of the new Per­form­ing Arts Cen­terK The ded­i­ca­tion of the new high school in the evening marked the end of a four-year con­struc­tion process and was a re­minder of Up­per Dublin’s pride in its great school districtK $ wRnGHUIuO GLsSODy RI fiUH­works capped off the eveningK

Up­per Dublin Community Day 2012 was co-spon­sored by Up­per Dublin Town­ship, the School Dis­trict of Up­per Dublin and the Com­mit­tee on Teenage Al­co­hol C Sub­stance Abuse (CoTASA)K Ad­di­tional sup­port came from the Up­per Dublin gu­nior Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion (UDgAA), the Up­per Dublin Soc­cer Club (UDSC), Derr Floor­ing, the Fort Wash­ing­ton Busi­ness Al­liance (FWBA), the Up­per Dublin High School PTO, High 6wDUWz, 6SULnJ­fiHOG 3DSHU 6SH­cial­ties, Alpern Art Stu­dio and Ambler The­aterK

Spe­cial recog­ni­tion must be given to the plan­ning com­mit­tee that con­sisted of Mike Cover, Bob Dana­her, Sandi Dana­her, Tammy bchevar­ria, gill Feld­man, Cyn­thia Fer­rante, Tim Flynn, Babs Klein, gim Klein, Su­san Lo­hoe­fer, Bob Lo­hoe­fer, goan Lud­wig, Mark Luttmann, Don Mel­chiorre and Bryan Pol­lackK The group spent more than eight months plan­ning for the eventK

I would also like to thank the many vol­un­teers who showed up the day of the event to as­sist with set­ting up the venue, reg­is­tra­tion and the break­downK Ku­dos goes to all town­ship and school dis­trict staff who worked throughout the dayK The high school tours were made pos­si­ble by sev­eral dozen vol­un­teers, in­clud­ing UDHS ka­tional Honor So­ci­ety mem­bers, dis­trict ad­min­is­tra­tors and staff and two re­tired teach­ersK

UDHS Drama Club mem­bers and par­ent vol­un­teers are thanked for their help in or­ga­niz­ing the Gala Concert, from ticket pickup, to ush­er­ing, to stage and tech­ni­cal pro­duc­tionK Dis­trict and UDHS Per­form­ing Arts fac­ulty are due a round of ap­plause for their time and en­ergy in lin­ing up Gala Concert tal­ent and pro­duc­ing the showK UDHS So­phis­ti­cated Strings is thanked for their per­for­manceK
