Community support showed UD is a very special place

Upper Dublin Community Day 2012 was held on Saturday, SeptK 29K Leading up to the event, the weather “gurus” were calling for rain all weekendK However, on Thursday all predictions changed and the day was to be rain freeK After all, for those who have been involved with Community Day know, the event has had the good fortune of never being rained outK
I am sure that if you were in attendance, you agree that Community Day was a great success by all measuresK
By the numbers, well more than 4,000 people came to the Upper Dublin Civic Campus for one activity or anotherK More than 100 groups, clubs and business were part of our midway (visit wwwKudcdKinfo to see the complete list!); more than 1,000 people toured the new high school; more than 100 people completed the UD Hunger Games by going to all seven booths sponsored by different township organizations; more than 40 people competed in the UDAC Splash and DashK kumerous children painted pumpkins, got twisted balloon fiJuUHs, GDnFHG wLWK 5DGLR Disney, climbed the rock wall or the monkey bridge, went on the Upper Dublin bducation Foundation hayrides and participated in many other fun activitiesK
Adults learned about community organizations and businesses, got antiques appraised, saw classic cars and caught up with friends and neighborsK bveryone enjoyed the food and numerous performing groupsK
The early evening Gala Concert was an amazing showcase of local talent and of the new Performing Arts CenterK The dedication of the new high school in the evening marked the end of a four-year construction process and was a reminder of Upper Dublin’s pride in its great school districtK $ wRnGHUIuO GLsSODy RI fiUHworks capped off the eveningK
Upper Dublin Community Day 2012 was co-sponsored by Upper Dublin Township, the School District of Upper Dublin and the Committee on Teenage Alcohol C Substance Abuse (CoTASA)K Additional support came from the Upper Dublin gunior Athletic Association (UDgAA), the Upper Dublin Soccer Club (UDSC), Derr Flooring, the Fort Washington Business Alliance (FWBA), the Upper Dublin High School PTO, High 6wDUWz, 6SULnJfiHOG 3DSHU 6SHcialties, Alpern Art Studio and Ambler TheaterK
Special recognition must be given to the planning committee that consisted of Mike Cover, Bob Danaher, Sandi Danaher, Tammy bchevarria, gill Feldman, Cynthia Ferrante, Tim Flynn, Babs Klein, gim Klein, Susan Lohoefer, Bob Lohoefer, goan Ludwig, Mark Luttmann, Don Melchiorre and Bryan PollackK The group spent more than eight months planning for the eventK
I would also like to thank the many volunteers who showed up the day of the event to assist with setting up the venue, registration and the breakdownK Kudos goes to all township and school district staff who worked throughout the dayK The high school tours were made possible by several dozen volunteers, including UDHS kational Honor Society members, district administrators and staff and two retired teachersK
UDHS Drama Club members and parent volunteers are thanked for their help in organizing the Gala Concert, from ticket pickup, to ushering, to stage and technical productionK District and UDHS Performing Arts faculty are due a round of applause for their time and energy in lining up Gala Concert talent and producing the showK UDHS Sophisticated Strings is thanked for their performanceK
