INSIDE AZCENTRAL WITH FAY FREDRICKS
We’re bringing you an inside view of the people and journalism behind Arizona’s largest newsroom. Weekdays, we’ll feature a questionnaire from a personality at azcentral.com, 12 News or The Arizona Republic.
Fay Fredricks, 12 News Today anchor, joined the station in April 2001. The mom of twin boys and a daughter is a Miami Hurricanes football fan and likes to travel, having had the opportunity to visit much of Europe, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Hong Kong, the Caribbean and parts of Central America. I never miss: Things to Do on azcentral.com because I’m always looking for fun “things to do” with my kids over the weekend (especially during the summer).
My most exciting moment as a journalist: Flying down into the Grand Canyon on a Park Service helicopter with the doors off. Another video, meanwhile, made me incredibly nervous. I’m anxious just driving over the new bridge on the way back from Vegas, I can’t imagine walking on a tightrope over the Canyon with NO NET.
The biggest misconception about working in TV: That we have a team of makeup and hair professionals fixing us up every day. We do it ourselves, and yes, sometimes it shows.
My most memorable letter from a viewer: From a father who lost his young son to an organism that grows in warm, fresh water. His son passed away after a day at the lake. He wrote to thank me for sharing the story of his son’s life. To read the stories mentioned above, go to questions.azcentral.com.
